PREAMBLE Students in this course are expected to design and implement quality and systems management programmes that can be used to improve performance in their organizations. TASK You have been commissioned to design and implement a quality and systems management for your organization. You are expected to review the current systems and structures before you develop the new system. ACTION Using your organization as the case study, review the current quality and systems management practices in operation then design an appropriate system that will enable your firm achieve competitive advantage. EXPECTED OUPUT 1. Group Presentation: Assignment one should be ready for group presentation on 23 March, 2012. All group members will be required to take part in the group presentations. A maximum of 15 minutes will be allocated to each group during the class presentation. 2. Individual Assignment: Each student will write a comprehensive report based on his / her organization. The report should be approximately 3000 words, typed in standard fonts (font 12, Times New Roman) and 1.5 line spacing. The report should include at least ten (10) references and all sources clearly sited. All references and citations in the report should use the Harvard referencing style. The references and appendix should be listed on different pages and should not be included in the word count. The final report should be submitted on 13 April, 2012 by 12 noon to the Administrator.

Instructions: Read Carefully. 1. Choose a topic for group discussion and presentation.
2. Presentations will be on 23 March 2012.

3. Each group should not have more the 6 members. 4. No two groups should have the same topic for presentation. 5. Prepare power point slides for presentation and a group write up for evaluation. Topic 1: A public corporation has approached you as an expert in Quality Management Systems (QMS) to assist in developing and implementing a QMS. Discuss how you will go about in executing the task clearly indicating the fundamental steps and the challenges you are likely to face in undertaking the assignment and how to overcome the challenges. Topic 2: Compare and contrast the six sigma and the business excellence (EFQM) quality

management frameworks. Discuss the similarities and differences between one of the frameworks with the COYA (Company of the Year Awards) in Kenya Topic 3: It is often mentioned by CEOs that TQM is a Strategic matter. In view of this statement discuss the importance of strategic planning in quality management process. Topic 4: Citing relevant examples from the Kenyan experience, explain the role of TQM in achieving an organizations competitive advantage. Topic 5: Numerous quality gurus have advanced a variety of perspectives on quality management. In view of this statement, compare and contrast quality management philosophies advanced by Dr. Joseph Juran and Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa in ensuring total quality in organizations. Is there an integrated framework on quality management? Discuss.

PRODUCE A REPORT ON MEASURES FOR QUALITY MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR ONE KNOWN TO YOU. Notes: Use the standard business report structure. Word process the report. Use 12 point Arial or Times New Roman script The assignment is due on 13 April 2012 by 12 noon Complete the title page and sign the statement of authenticity. You should bind the completed work. Late work will be penalized and may not be marked. Work that is not submitted will be marked with a zero grade and thus the student will receive a FM (Failed Module) for the unit. Students should note that to qualify for the DMS Diploma, all units must be passed. Students cannot proceed to second year ( MBA top up of the University of Sunderland ) without achieving the DMS qualification AND
