The annual Chartered Clubs Lion Breweries sponsored race day was held recently at Ruakaka. 20+ clubs attended and a team from our Club, consisting of Train Driver Pete, Les, Radar & Dolphin, had a great day out. Each team received $200 to bet on the races, which lasted to the last race with no help from TIPS from friend and Vice President of the Racing Club, Granty Adams. The Chartered Clubs Committee won the competition but, after being dropped off at The Grand Hotel to wait for Stans Van, our team did well on the pokies with wins in excess of $500. Our Club was happy to partially cover this teams safe travel with Stan.

That is so you Howard - nah just kidding. He and Diane made a great team cooking up sausages at the Car Boot Sale. Come and try their bacon & egg sandwiches next time. COMMITTEE NEWS It is with regret that we received Phis resignation from the committee. Her energy and enthusiasm throughout the Rugby World Cup is well remembered. However, she is still happy to help out from time to time with special events such as the Kids Xmas Party. There will be some disruptions coming soon when our new chiller arrives from overseas. The storage area out back is to be extended a wee bit and hopefully the work will be completed by Christmas

Friends gathered in the Cub on 22nd September to farewell long time members Wayne Rastrick & Helen Drew and Alan Gilbert & Julie Freakley. It is just coincidental that these two couples are chasing their dreams at the same time. Wayne & Helen have headed to Whitianga, but we will see them back from time to time as Wayne has work commitments in the area. Al & Julie are heading to Queensland seeking sun and work. Al was Bar Manager for many years as well as giving some time on the committee. Julie is a past President and Trustee of the Club. Both have been very committed club members and will be sorely missed. To all four of you, we wish you well and hope your dreams come true. Monday Girls will not be the same.

Don Grimwood, President of the Pool Section, receiving the trophy from Ngunguru Club representative

POOL VISITS : On September 29th Ngunguru Club came across for a return pool match. They brought with them a very nice trophy, which will be played for in future matches. What a great turn out and what a fun time we all had. We barely won in the end. I would have taken the dumb player trophy, hitting 5 balls in with one great whack - one being the Black!!!! As I write this Im hoping our luck holds Labour Weekend when Otorohanga Clubs Travel Section come out for a challenge match. The Clubs Annual Open Pool Championships have started. This is always a hotly played championship so watch out for posters displaying when the finals are to be played - probably around December.

We Want You To Get Home Safely We urge you to take some personal responsibility in keeping yourselves and others on the road safe, particularly as the Silly Season is about to begin To this end we will subsidise your trip home from the Club to the value of $6 per trip - not per person. Collect a chit from bar staff and they will be happy to phone alternative transport for you.
