CODE OF KALANTIAW Code of Kalantiaw was a mythical legal code in the epic story Maragtas.

It is said to have been written in 1433 by Datu Kalantiaw, a chief on the island of Negros in the Philippines. It was actually written in 1913 by Jose E. Marco as a part of his historical fiction Las antiguas leyendes de la Isla de Negros (Spanish, "The Ancient Legends of the Island of Negros"), which he attributed to a priest named Jose Maria Pavon. Kalantiaw had misconceptions in translating the text and also kalantiaw is a hoax because it lacks historical evidences. No written history of kalantiaw had been documented. Laws of the Code of Kalantiaw: 1) You shall not kill, neither shall you steal, neither shall you do harm to the aged, lest you incur the danger of death. China- Unlike the other three countries in this list, China never conquered the country by way of military might. Instead, China got into Philippine culture by way of mercantilism. Since time immemorial, the Philippines has been trading with the Philippines and Chinese immigrants who decided to live here brought along their culture. In terms of food, Filipinos love Chinese food such as siopao, siomai, taho and hopia. Filipinos also follow some aspects of Chinese culture such as feng shui, dragon dances and even Chinese New Year. Lately, Chinese movies by way of Hong Kong has also been vey popular as well as some TV soap operas Filipinos Against the Chinese Chinese were excellent artists and tradesmen They were important in the economy of the country Chinese revolted five times during the Spanish era 1603, 1639, 1667, 1686, and 1762 They were treated badly by the Spanish rulers Abuses to the Chinese: the Chinese were forced to pay heavy taxes; all Chinese were forced to lived in the Parian (Chinatown) outside the city walls; the Chinese were ordered to cut off their queues (long hair); many Chinese were deported to reduce their population; and The Chinese were massacred every time they revolted. The greatest Filipino hero of the Chinese revolts was Francisco Laksamana, commander of the Pampangueno troops in the Spanish army

He defeated the Chinese rebels in the hills of Antipolo in June 1662 and saved the city of Manila

Filipinos and the Moro Wars

Moro in Spanish term means Muslim The Filipino Moros in Mindanao and Sulu were not conquered by Spain Christian Filipino heroes were: Juan Aquino Nicolas Martinez Cirilo Maypit and Geronimo Sundulin Filipino Muslims who defended Islam and Moro independence were: Sultan Kudarat, the greatest warrior of Mindanao, who defended Lamitan against the Spaniards in 1837 Sultan Jamalul Alam, who defended Jolo in 1876 and leased North Borneo (Sabah) to the British in 1878 Datu Utto, who defended Cotabato in 1886-87; Datu Amai Pakpak, who defended Lanao in 1889-91; Datu Pian (Amal Mingka), who conquered Cotabato and Tamontaka in 1878-99.

India has influenced the Philippines in nearly all aspects of life. The Philippines has been trading with India as far back as the Sriwijaya Empire, which started in the 7th century. With this trade came influence in language, music, and writing (Baybayin is based on Sanskrit; a quarter of Tagalog is of Sanskrit origin). Some common words are guro/guru (teacher), mukha (face), Likhain (to write), and putong (turban). India also brought the spread of religion, including forms of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam (brought by the Majapahit Empire). The pre-historic Filipino creator god "Bathala" comes from the Hindu god "Brahman." Many of the customs in India and the Philippines are similar also, such as feeding the dead and dowries.

Many people think that before the Spanish arrived, the Philippines lacked culture. But it had plenty of it, girl. Parts of the Philippines was even ruled by kings (Rajas) and the central region of the Philippines, Visayas (where my dad is from), is supposedly named after the last Filipino king, Srivijaya. Yes, the Philippines was heavily influenced by the Spaniards. But that isn't the whole story, and only recently are people starting to acknowledge that. There is a lot of archeological evidence that needs to verify a lot of things we don't know about the precolonial Philippines, as Spain has done everything in it's power to eliminate pagan religions (destruction of temples, violent getting pagans to convert, etc.).
