Words a porous lot Expecting to be spoken to Foiled from here to eternity Troublesome I of the line A problematic family tree Grew up so tall speaks Too loud beneath the neutral sky The page sinks the letters into Stylish defacement Is too colorful Bleeds through that I too spoken for needs a language

Of its own To speak for itself With thought's speech *

A dying system may produce error messages Without us words would fall on their faces The end of the world could be near So put the pens in the right pockets And the guns in their holsters before The present tense of summer turns subjunctive Before I hurl those top producers out the door People you hate set a standard of conduct To follow in reverse they sell the floor From under our feet Grow a business park from the last cherry orchard Sorry the wind blew the words out of my mouth Here's a lyrical fist

Only two know the meaning of us And even they can't be trusted This critique infers a doomed finesse I am here to remind you that time Has its own blind market forces Poetry is not exempt Who uses it creates a small scandal As real as thinking Perfectly sharp yet entirely vague

What thou lov'st well is thy true heritage

This shattered beauty Holding up the world bank Poetry loves with love The bon mot knows no hate Thats what we meant in 1968 *

As space yields to nouns Does time yield to verbs? Is there is no other yield In this my capitalist love? Pronouns are multinational I is filled with promise The server serves the I I buys on credit Now I sings of victory Call back and speak to the retention department I'm a young poet though poetrys old But I make me new I sits down to eat I sits down to read All of summer in one word *

Achilles had his way and sat through The Age of Rage without writing An epic later told on him Nobody pulled his words Through the ancestral light The dream listens and goes

Dawn came early, a palmetto of rose

Poetry isnt kidding it likes to fool around Helen left without a note All the longhaired Greeks knew Poetry follows curves in the road Writing in the sky Beauty by surprise *

The war is going well they say As if to answer How are you with fine No poem Would stand for such a line A poem is not a fool *

No memory of time but event after event Steam the paper off the wall no Wall but the paper

Stupid stupid stupid he shoved my house of cards Into the costume basket under the fairy wings!
Expect to keep the same pace wear the same face Video reveals all that waits under the chin Anselm Hollos good cracked mug Silver streaks a real Rolls with a lady perched On my hood if Jack Spicer didnt like a line hed say

Its not true love to be translated

Into language not recuperative Not remunerative just a record Living attention *
