The federal tax individual update presentation by renowned lecturer Vincent J. OBrien, CPA, will highlight the effects of these significant federal changes. Mr. OBrien is the owner and principal lecturer of M+O=CPE, Inc., a company that provides its definitive year-end tax update each December and January for CPAs and other tax professionals. 12:201:10 pm Breakout Session 2 Select one Investing in a Low Rate Environment Speaker: Peter D. DAgati, CFA / Stembrook Asset Management, LLC Interest rates are at their lowest levels since the end of World War II. This creates an obvious challenge for savers. For those who would naturally look to fixed income instruments for low volatility and high current income, the options have narrowed significantly. Add to this, the risk of future inflation and we have a recipe for a very challenging time for savers. This discussion will explore the relative attractiveness of various asset classes, given a scenario of low and eventually rising interest rates. This discussion will explore the risks and potential benefits of various investments in this environment. We will include a view of history and a discussion of how we arrived here. We will also focus on key valuation metrics used in the comparison of potential investment alternatives. We will also share strategies that we have implemented for our clients, which take advantage of the above analytical framework. (1 CE credit for CFPs and/or CPAs) Integrating Options Strategies Into Your Clients Financial Plans Speaker: Joseph Burgoyne / The Options Industry Council This seminar starts with the mechanics of spreads for both calls and puts, and then delves into more advanced multi-leg options strategies. Mr. Burgoyne will explain debit and credit spreads and how these building blocks can be employed to construct Butterfly, Iron Butterfly, Condor and Iron Condor strategies. Associated benefits and risks for each of the strategies will be discussed in detail. This session is for experienced traders. An intermediate understanding of options, coupled with practical experience with both option and stock investing, will be necessary to fully benefit and understand the material that will be presented. (1 CE credit for CFPs and/or CPAs) Five Practical Trusts With Big Impact Speaker: Waldean Wall / Allianz This course discusses five practical trusts that can have a big impact on how assets are transferred to survivors. Some of the biggest problems people have in the asset transfer area can be disruptions and delays, paying more tax than necessary, and making sure the right assets get to the right people at the right time. The trusts and trust characteristics discussed in this course can help the financial professional guide and prepare clients, along with their attorneys, to manage their assets before and after death to align with what they want their money to accomplish. The course also covers the latest laws and estate planning legislation around trusts. Vandy, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, CLTC / New York Long Term Care Brokers, Ltd. A great deal has changed in the Long-Term Care and Long-Term Care Insurance areas over the last 12-18 months. From the scrapping of the CLASS Act, to insurance carriers increasing premiums and tightening underwriting standards, to some carriers exiting the business, to continued pressure on publically funded LTC programs, the market continues to try to identify itself and come up with a more universal solution to the question who will pay for my long-term care costs? In this session, we will examine the overall LTC market, including recent insurance product and carrier structural changes. (1 CFP and/or CPA CE credit and/ or 1 NYS Insurance CreditNYCR-236729) 5:10- 6:00 pm Post-Conference Session 2: Managing Your Fiduciary Responsibilities Speaker: William Schories / OppenheimerFunds As 401(k) plans become an increasingly important source of retirement income for employees, the fees charged to such plans are becoming the subject of growing scrutiny. Excessive plan fees can hamper participants efforts to save for retirement, and litigation, legislation and regulation concerning plan fees are all on the rise. Its therefore more important than ever for plan sponsors to review their plans carefully and understand its fees. This seminar provides a brief overview of some of the key issues surrounding plan fees, and suggests ways for you to help sponsors ensure that they are managing their fiduciary duties more effectively.
