WELCOME TO

SUMMER MADNESS
Welcome to Gainsborough Park for todays Midsummer Jamboree. This promises to be a very busy day and I hope that you will have time to enjoy the full programme of events. Lets hope that the weather doesn't put too much of a dampener on things. Id like to thank all of the volunteer helpers who have made a contribution towards making this event possible. In particular, Sarah Olifent and Greg Miles have put an enormous amount of effort in to planning and persuading, so thank you both. From the rugby clubs point of view your support today will help to bring our development targets closer. Youll see the pitch and new floodlights, next we hope to build! I hope that you enjoy the day and manage to pick a few winners.

THE BLACKMORE AND SPARKFORD VALE HUNT

The Blackmore & Sparkford Vale Hunt has for many years supported the farmers within its country, which covers a large area of both Somerset and Dorset. Daily collections of fallen stock are made from farms, which requires the employment of two kennelmen and the provision of a purpose-built vehicle. Happily the Hunt enjoys a very good relationship with farmers, the overwhelming majority of whom give a very warm welcome to hounds and many who, along with other members of the local communities within our hunting country, also generously host meets on our behalf. The Hunt is supported by its own Hunt Supporters Club which holds regular fund-raising events throughout the year ranging from gymkhanas, terrier shows and sponsored rides to Cheese & Wine parties and barn dances. The success of this club allows regular contributions to be made to charities, especially the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance who provide a life-saving quick response service. Very popular and very well supported by the general public are two of the Hunts major events the annual Point-to-Point which is held in March and also the Hunt Ball which takes place in November. The Hunt also helps to maintain gates and fences over a wide area and provides winter sport/recreation for a large number of followers, both mounted and on foot. A large number of children and young people hunt regularly due to the support of a very good and active Pony Club. All are welcome and anyone requiring more information should contact either the Secretary on 01935 872379 or 07971 720432 (Hunting enquiries) or the Membership Secretary of the Hunt Supporters Club on 07973 153496 (for Supporters and Car and Foot followers).

SHERBORNE RFC
Sherborne Rugby Football Club is a young club being founded in 1980 at the Digby Tap before moving into the present day club house at the Terraces. SRFC is fund-raising for the phase two development plan to extend the club house and to improve facilities for the two successful senior teams, the cup-winning colts and for the three hundred youngsters, both girls and boys, who have a fantastic time playing rugby on a Sunday morning from early September to late April. Finding the funds each year to invest in shirts, equipment, training courses, pitch maintenance and the other key things is an enormous challenge, but we are good at what we do. The Rugby Football Union has already awarded the Club full accreditation, making us one of 44 rugby clubs (from the 1600 that there are in England) to have this award. You may be surprised to know that we have 2 players at England under 18 and 19 levels, George Buckney and Ollie Devoto, both coached here from the age of 7 upwards. If you would like to find our more about the rugby club please visit our website (details just below). The competitive season starts in September but there are a number of events, such as over 35s touch rugby, and pre-season training happening now. Players of all abilities are always welcome.

Kings Arms Maiden Stakes

2pm

Blue - STELLA - Stoutly-bred ram who has been well-held in last couple of races, likely to need further than this if he is to make any impact today. Green BECKS - Has made a promising start this season, will suit todays race and stronger claims than most. Purple THATCHERS - Signs of ability in previous years but a disappointing start to this season. Yellow CORVUS - Twice successful last year, good chance to resume winning ways here. White BUTCOMBE - Wouldnt have to step up after last times efforts, one to think about today. Pink DOOM BAR - Twice successful over this trip. Good chance to resume winning ways here.

Boden Handicap Hurdle

2.35pm

Pearce Seeds Grand National

3.45pm

Blue - PEARL RAM - Tendency to finish weakly means he is a risky one for the win. Green - EWE B 40 - Caught the eye when placed last time out, ground possibly against him since. Purple - LADY BAA BAA - Runner up on both starts, hampered by faller last time out. Shaping to improve on that here. Yellow - WOOL I AM - Fell early in race last time out. Good conditions to suit, dont rule out. White - DURAM DURAM - No encouragement in its three races last season, serious lift in form to happen to get close here. Pink - ROB DA SHANK - Has had a good season, winning twice, moody display last time though and improvements needed to defy current mark.

Blue - SEEDY SID - Soundly beaten on his last two starts, will be a surprise is gets close today. Green - PESTACLIVE - Coaxed home last time out last summer. Held form since and looks one of the more solid options despite tendency to finish weakly. Purple ROUNDUP ROBERT Pedigree nothing special but yard is having a bumper season and sheep back to good form of late. Yellow CORNEY KEV Twice a winner last year and finished a good third last time out after rallying well when the pressure was on. White FERTILE PHIL Highly regarded by his trainer and though he has failed to make as much impact as hoped he remains an interesting prospect. Pink KIWI DOLLY He has built up a fairly impressive losing sequence so far this season. Looks less fanciable than its opposition.

Old Mill Hunters Chase

3.10pm

Oxfords Bakery Novices Hurdle

4.20pm

Blue - CASH COW - Good second last time out. Ground conditions an unknown but leading chance with repeat of that effort. Green - GIFT HORSE - Stamina his forte, runner up in last two races and not out of this today. Purple - LOAN SHARK - Won two races last season, but has been let down by attitude in recent times. Yellow - LIONS SHARE - Came a close second earlier in the season but jumping went to pieces last time out. A risky choice. White - UNDER DOG - Sure to be popular after winning its last two starts. Tough and tenacious, he does it from the front but dont expect him to cave in easily when challenged. Pink - PIGGY BANK - Suffered narrow defeat last time and bold showing likely if keeping mistakes down.

Blue DAVE THE DOUGHBALL - Did plenty wrong in seasons debut but been winning since and it wouldnt be a shock if he was in contention tonight. Green - RAM TART - Appears to be on a sharply upward curve, winning both starts this season. He handled contrasting ground in those two contests but finished well on top each time. Purple - SOURDOUGH STEVE - Well beaten on recent appearances and hard to fancy today. Yellow - ROGER ROGER JAMMIE DODGER - Not always consistent previously he seems be getting his act together now not to rule out. White - CHELSEA RUN - Won here last year, but has shown little else to impress. Pink - LAMB DONUT - Fell at last two outings but a recent change of jockey make her a possible winner.
