ESL Teacher (NCLB HQ) Campus Director; Special Education Director As Assigned

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Position Summary: Teaches and facilitates learning for students in a Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd) school, maintaining academic progress, discipline and records. Ensure that the ResponsiveEd's English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides necessary services for students limited in their English Proficiency. Work together with administrators and general education teachers to identify and meet the educational needs of English Language Learner (ELL) students. Works with parents and students to provide and implement individualized education to meet the needs of all students. Qualifications:

Education/Certification Must be No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Highly Qualified (HQ) with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (B.A.or B.S.) from four-year accredited College or University, preferably in the area of Education or core content area. Valid Texas teaching certificate in the area of English as a Second Language, or ESL endorsement of currently held certified teaching grade levels.

Experience Teaching experience in assigned grade levels is strongly preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Must have a passion for children. Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with children. Must have strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs. Must have strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. General knowledge of grade level curriculum and proven instructional abilities in specific grade levels. Must have working knowledge of federal and state ESL laws and regulations. Must have proven knowledge of and experience with ESL instructional strategies. Must have working knowledge of and compliance with individualized services for students with disabilities Must have the ability to communicate with and instruct students who are limited in their English proficiency. Must be able to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization. Must have the ability to understand the individual needs of each student and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Must have a clear understanding of goal setting for students and the individualized approach.

Must have the ability to receive guidance from supervisors. Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of students, their parents, the community, peers, administrative staff, Campus Directors, Superintendents, and corporate staff. Must have the ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, transcripts, and grade point average. Must have the ability to transition with changes. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Must have the ability to travel as necessary.

Preferred KSAs General knowledge of curriculum and instruction preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties: The ESL Teacher will work collaboratively with campus administration to ensure ongoing identification and documentation of enrolled students in whose home is spoken a language other than English and who are found to be limited in their English proficiency. The ESL Teacher will schedule and conduct Language Proficiency Assessment Committee meetings to ensure appropriate identification, placement and services for students limited in their English proficiency. The ESL Teacher will collaborate with general education teachers and administrators to provide staff training in ESL strategies to assure appropriate assistance to and understanding of ELL. The ESL Teacher will provide individual and group instruction for ELL on a regular basis. The ESL Teacher will ensure continual assessment of ELL student progress by using local and district benchmark testing and general coursework progress reports; evaluate findings in order to assure ELL student success. The ESL Teacher will update and send a monthly ELL Roster report and a weekly ELL Count report to Principal and district personnel. The ESL Teacher will plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support general education teachers in accomplishing all educational goals. The ESL Teacher will ensure compliance with all state mandated assessments including their selection and administration. The ESL Teacher will serve as campus resource person and trainer for all campus staff to support students limited in their English proficiency. The ESL Teacher will recommend sound policies to Campus Directors to improve ESL program. The ESL Teacher will implement Responsive Education Solutions ESL school board policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. The ESL Teacher will compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents required by law and/or the Director of Special Education. The ESL Teacher will instruct and motivate students in all course study. The ESL Teacher will assign lessons and correct homework. The ESL Teacher will administer tests to evaluate students progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress. The ESL Teacher will maintain discipline in the classroom.

The ESL Teacher will maintain a learning center that is conducive to learning, safe, attractive and stimulating. The ESL Teacher will set a good housekeeping example in the learning center and encourages students to follow this example. The ESL Teacher will schedule periodic meetings with parents to discuss student progress and problems. The ESL Teacher will participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops. The ESL Teacher will inspire students with consistency, care, and interest to build students selfesteem and promote continued success. The ESL Teacher will praise students, compliment them and encourages them in order to build character. The ESL Teacher will utilize a variety of learning methods to enhance the students learning experiences. The ESL Teacher will prepare an individualized education plan (IEP) to promote students success on the states assessment exams (TAKS, TEKS, and STAAR). The ESL Teacher will work closely with the Special Education teacher to ensure special education students modifications are being implemented. The ESL Teacher will perform related duties such as assisting students in selecting courses of study, counseling students in adjustment and academic problems, and sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations. The ESL Teacher will conduct student assemblies as necessary.

Other Responsibilities and Duties: The ESL Teacher will master the Responsive Education Solutions ESL Learning System in order to assist the students in mastering the system. The ESL Teacher will read and comply with the ResponsiveEd Procedures Manual, Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and the Employee Handbook. The ESL Teacher will perform special projects, during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned. The ESL Teacher will travel as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: The ESL Teacher will directly supervise one or two ESL Paraprofessionals as necessary. The ESL Teacher will carry out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the ResponsiveEd policies and procedures. The ESL Teacher will be responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems, if necessary. Equipment Used: All equipment required to perform jobs duties and task previously described.
