In the scriptures "abominations" in the sight of God often related to idol worship.

That idol worship can even be our own selves...trying to "justify" ourselves before God. Idoltry and covetousness are abominations to God. Turning away from God and His Word. Refusing to listen to His instructions. Trying to "justify" our false worship of material items. Seeking self glory. Pretending to be something we are not. Taking pride in our own works. These are abominations. Those who are seeking vain glory, refusing to glorify God, are the same as the pagans who set up idols made of clay and stone.
(Luke 16:15) "And He (Jesus) said unto them,(the covetous Pharisees)

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God." The LORD gives us warning concerning abominations, especially the abomination of vain and personal glory. Those who refuse to accept the Word of God as the final authority for all of life...."For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices." (Proverbs 1:29-31)
(Isaiah 65:12) "Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall

all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not." We have a clear warning from Rev. 21:27; "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

"For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Romans 12:3) "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." (Col
3:12-13)

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men" (Col 3:23) "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." (Col 3:17) Our discussion yesterday about sin, brought up the subject of "abominations" and it is clear in scripture that sin is an abomination before our Holy God. Abominations are the idols we allow to invade our lives; money, power, greed, selfishness, covetous ambitions, and by giving honor to anything other than God. Even our own ideas and thoughts can become abominations when we elevate ourselves above others and refuse to humble ourselves in the sight of God. Refusing to listen. Forsaking your teachable, childlike heart of love. Pride is one of the hidden sins of the heart. Listen to the teaching of our Master; Jesus the Christ of God:... "..... He began to say unto His disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea,

I say unto you, Fear Him." (Luke 12:1-5) ........."But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." (James 3:17-18) "But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors." (James 2:9) "But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" (1 Peter 4:15-17) "Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord." (Ephesians 5:1-10)
