Planet Travel Brochure

Overview
Student will use knowledge about a planet or moon in our solar system to create a travel brochure which invites travellers to a vacation on their chosen planet or moon

Lesson objectives
Student will produce a 6-page travel brochure using a tablet computer and appropriate apps. Student will devise ways to incorporate scientific information in a creative way to describe recreational opportunities and resort facilities on their chosen planet/moon. Student will incorporate known information about their chosen planet/moon into their brochure to give detailed information to prospective travellers.

Activities and Steps


Students will use an iPad app (Solar System Planets (free) or 3-D Solar System Walk ($4.99) to gather information and create a travel brochure to a great vacation on the planet or moon of their choice in our solar system. Pages for the brochure can be created using Power Point or photo imaging apps. The brochure will consist of the following: An introduction page with an image or drawing (using Draw Free or other iPad drawing app) which shows the planet or moons surface

Students will learn about different conditions on planets and moons in our solar system Student will apply this information to other known solar systems Students will be able relate their position on Earth as it compares to their position in the solar system and universe

A page which contains specific information about the planet/moon such as size, temperature, distance from sun, orbit duration, daylight hours and other scientific tidbits. This information will be presented in a sell it style A page giving cursory information about recreational opportunities and resort facilities. Give information about possible websites, contact information including name and phone number, etc. A page (usually at the end of the brochure) outlining what to bring, what to expect, dress code, costs, travel times and stay duration. Are there options for stays of different durations? 1-2 pages which contain more detailed information about the resort and recreational opportunities available to the tourist specifically relating them to the conditions on the planet. i.e. great iceskating facilities on Europa. A page which contains an image (using Draw Free or other iPad Drawing App) picture of an indigenous (imaginary) life form of the planet or moon which tourists will have a chance to see. You need to include what adaptations this creature has to allow it to live in the conditions on the planet/moon.
