In every organization like educational institutions, factories and other companies has to maintain the daily attendance of each

and every person. Manually taking the attendance of every person or student is not much effective. Because the management of the every organization should maintain a separate register and update the register according to the absence or presence of the person. A person should appointed specially to monitor whether the valid person entering the signature in his corresponding field in the register or not. If the number of fields in the register (like sign in and sign out times etc.,) is increased, the time taken to enter these entire fields by each person also increases. Assume this situation when an organization has one thousand employees and more. It also requires ensuring that some people may not enter into unauthorized sections in the company. It is necessary to provide a security system for those unauthorized sections. The best solution for attendance system and security is to provide a uniquely identified device to each and every person who working in the organization, so that some people gain access to the unauthorized sections in the company. By providing the uniquely identified device it is possible to record the each person sign in and sign out details along with exact timing. Here, comes the picture of RFID technology. The management of the organization should provide unique identification cards to each and every person working in their organization. Those cards are commonly referred as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification cards) tags. A RFID reader is used to read the RFID tag data, when the RFID tag is placed over the RFID reader device. Whenever the user places the RFID tag over the RFID reader device, it will send the information to the microcontroller via RS-232 cable (serial communication), then the microcontroller validates the user information by sending the information to the host computer via a wireless device. The software tool designed in java check whether the person information is registered or not. It the person is authorized one, then host computer again sends back the acceptance signal to the microcontroller. Then the microcontroller drives the stepper motor to open the gate. If the person is not authorized the gate will not open. The technology used in this project is RFID technology which provides unique identification to each person. The RFID tag and receiver used are operating at 125KHz. A microcontroller 89s52 is used to control the gate with a stepper motor by checking the valid authentication. RF wireless device is used to transmit or receive data between the controller and the PC. A software tool designed in java is used to maintain the attendance details of the authorized persons along with photo, in and out timings.
