Wills Corner - 4 ! Those were the words that Tyler Glienke from Omar Ikkas Play-os - 4 campaign had to say when the class contemplated closing the border with Mexico. If this is what our government is resorting to in order to grow the economy, then we have a serious problem on our hands. ! Most people would believe that the legalization of marijuana is something that should be frowned upon. After all, it is terrible for ones health, and has other undesirable side eects, such as addiction and hallucinations. While it is true that marijuana has some medicinal properties, it is not completely proven to be credible, therefore making it frowned upon in most societies. ! I think that the legalization of marijuana is something that could be discussed, but only if certain restrictions, like using it only for the purpose it is prescribed, are placed upon it. Dont get me wrong, Im all for it when it comes to helping people, but these drugs are derogatory to the health of the people of the world, and should only be used if one absolutely needs it. I know I wouldnt want to take marijuana for pain, but then again, I dont know what kind of pain these people who need to take it are feeling. Besides, if were taxing marijuana as it comes through the border, then itll probably come through legitimate sources, not from the illegal aliens thatll cross the border. ! To the supporters of Omar Ikka, I want to ask this one thing: do you really believe we want a person to be president that allows his sta to talk like this about their platform? ! By: Mariah Wills

SO, WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? ! What is the dierence between Democrats and Republicans? What does it mean to be liberal or conservative? Many of you took the poll on Monday and about a third of you were undecided or you didnt know. So, Im going to tell you the dierences! ! A democrat is someone who wants change, reform and are looking for better ways to improve America in the future. Liberals are generally paired with the democratic party. Three things they believe in doing is ghting for education, equality in America, and support of womens rights and the military. Some democrats you may know are Barack Obama, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. ! On the other hand, a Republican is someone who wants to keep things the same and they arent too keen for reform or change. They can also be considered as conservative. They believe in cutting government spending, they want people to become procient in math, reading, and they are generally against abortion. Some famous Republican presidents we have had are Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower. ! ! By: Kelly Hutchins

EDITORIAL: LELEGALIZATION - OMAR IKKA

! ! Legalize it. It'll be great. We can't stop it coming 4. Barack Obama is the 44th president, but how many in from Mexico anyway, let's just tax it. Omar Ikka presidents have there actually been? supporters would probably tell you things pretty close By: Maggie Ostrum to this. Marijuana has been been picking up steam to be Submit your answers to legalized, whether it be used for medical purposes or "recreational use." Using the word recreational is quite govgazette@gmail.com the sugar coat. The idea is to have marijuana for sale to the public and to put a federal sales tax on it. Kind of like cigarettes, another wonderful substance. Now, ! Congratulations, once again, to sophomore: Alex marijuana won't give you lung cancer, but I wouldnt Pringnitz for being rst to answer all the trivia correctly! exactly call it a safe drug. If it's safe they shouldn't call it Will anybody challenge his two day streak? Quickly answer a drug. this trivia and win some gum from Mr. Schmidt! ! Marijuana is a depressant, like alcohol, and can impair a persons judgment. Instead of drunk drivers, May the odds be ever in your favor, there would be high drivers, and maybe even drivers with both in their systems. This can also go down into a Brooklyn Wackerbarth question of what we stand for here. If we let people go ahead and do this, what's that going to do for America? It'd give the government money, sure, but we'd also have a ton of people unmotivated and waiting to get home so they can roll a doobie and smoke the day away. If you haven't picked it up already, I simply don't agree with this, but in all fairness, you never know 'til you try... I just hope we don't try. ! By: Tyler Schmitz

EDITORIAL: MEDICAL MARIJUANA? WHO KNEW?! ! The legalization of marijuana has been in the Democrat's topics as of lately. They believe that it should be used for medical reasonings only. An example from a 6th hour student was that it could help with cancer for glaucoma treatment. The symptoms of the typical treatments are that they make you not want to eat and youd become very nauseated. With the help of marijuana, it would reduce these side-eects. It would make you want to eat more and reduce nausea. They also thought putting a tax on it would be a smart way to help pay o some of our countrys debt. ! My opinion to all of this is yes, I believe that it would be a great help to all of the terrible diseases that have been discovered and are continuing to be discovered throughout the years. However, I know that people will use it for an excuse to help them or some

how use it inappropriately. But once again, I still think its necessary for medical purposes. If we were to go through with this, the drinking age should be higher because you are able to look at how many people alcohol has killed, and how many marijuana hasnt. Point proven. Til next time SLHS. ! ! By: Joni Nelson

WILL CORNER S ! Do not hesitate to reserve seats for this weekends SLHS musical production of Cats. With all the inevitable stress of the week, there is no better place to be this Saturday night or Sunday afternoon than relaxing in the cozy Sami center seats while being thoroughly entertained by your classmates dressed up in fantastic feline duds. There is no doubt about the level of excitement rebounding from familiar faces on the stage, and there is no way that you will be uninterested in the musical. The play takes place in an alley that is overrun by, obviously, cats. The felines creatively tell the story of a tribe of cats named the Jellicles as they make their Jellicle choice to decide which cat will be sent to the Heavyside layer and to a new life. The interesting show is performed beautifully, and jam-packed full of enjoyment.
