Attention Factor Students attention will be aroused and sustained by engaging in curiosity and sensations that involve literary activities such as reading, writing, and technology. Strategies: Perceptual arousal is maintained by introducing new surprising ideas in the library that students may be unfamiliar with. Inquiry arousal involves the stimulating behavior of having learners generate questions by creating a brainstorming activity to determine what their book report will be about. Variability will be maintained by allowing the student to pick who they would like their book report to be about. Relevance Factor Students will be given the ability to choose what their book report will be about thus allowing them to ignite their interests and goals. This will in turn allow students to achieve their goals and help them continue to stay motivated. Strategies: The teacher will use familiar terms with the student to activate prior knowledge. Student will already have prior knowledge about how to construct an essay before they begin. Their assignment will continue to be goal oriented because it will be about a person that interests the student. The teacher will use ideas such as graphic organizers to monitor motivation. Confidence Factor Students will remain confident throughout the duration of the project because of their continuing interest. Strategies: The teacher will give the student a rubric before completing the project so the student can monitor their accuracy and maintain a positive attitude. Allow conferences to be help between student and teacher to demonstrate personal control. Satisfaction Factor If the student is allowed to grade their own essay based on the rubric provided, the learner will know their expectations and feel relatively good about those outcomes. Strategies: Natural consequences provide opportunities to use newly acquired knowledge or skill in a real or stimulated setting by allowing learner to use technology. Positive consequences provide feedback and reinforcements that will sustain behavior by monitoring progress. Standards will continue to be consistent with the task accomplishment.
