(Chapter- 5) Zetron Radio or RAU 5.1 Need of Zetron radio A key goal of the TETRA subscriber radios is the commonality of radio operation between mobile and portable. The goal was to design a radio form with modernized front look, and a large display, to expand feedback to the customer. In this arrangement a radio user can easily access radio and has a functionality just like a telephone radio. Extreme care is placed on comfort to the ear for the interconnect user. This set is very important were a user is fixed in a room environment and can access radio in desktop. Hence in station and in OCC control center which are stationary and fixed these set play an important role. These set are placed in these area for smooth and smarter radio functionality. This set up is type of desktop radio with a radio set and a accessing set called ZETRON the Model of Zetron set used is Model 390.

5.2. Introduction In the Station Control Room (SCR), Desk Station type (RAU) mobile radios are offered for easy-to-install, inexpensive but reliable communications. The Radio Control Panel (RCP) comprises of control module i.e. zetron set and MTM700 radio for monitoring and call processing of talk groups. The radio control head is of Zetron M390 model The M390 control head is a versatile desktop controller designed to work with the Motorola MTM700 TETRA radio. This controller is suitable for use in public or private systems. The radio is to be placed in the best radio coverage area, away from the computer and other equipment, which could be disturbed by the radiation of the radio or could interfere with the reception of the radio. The control head is ideally suited to radio operator dispatchers and where office personnel need access to a radio system without wanting to have a radio placed into the office environment. This controller is suitable for use in public or private systems. The radio can be placed up to 600 meters away from the control head and optional up to 15 controllers can be connected to one radio. This enables the radio to be placed in the best radio coverage area, away from the computer and other equipment which could be disturbed by the radiation of the radio or could interfere with the reception of the radio. 1. MTM700 Mobile Radio The MTM700 TETRA mobile radio from Motorola is based on the already successful and well-proven radio platform and incorporates the latest Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Linear RF Power Amplifier (PA) technology. The MTM700 meets both mobile and fixed mobile operational requirement. For optimum performance, one version of mobile radio will be provided to meet both applications: the mobile radio in remote mount operation for the trains and locomotives (i.e. train borne radio), as well as Radio Access Unit (RAU) for the Station Control Rooms (SCR), Operation Control Centre (OCC) and Depot Control Centre. It is a 3 Watt radio with accessories and control head to be connected.

The Model 390 is ideally suited to radio operator dispatchers and where office personnel need access to a radio system without wanting to have a radio placed into the office environment. The M390 is a robust telephone style desktop controller with a large, easy-toread LCD display and handset. Each unit has an individual rotary volume control, a numeric keypad and function buttons. The keypad is designed to provide fast access to all vital information. The function buttons match the radio making the operation simple and intuitive for any operator familiar with the MTM700. LED button indicators show which functions are activated and the presence of incoming messages in the stack. The M390 supports the same languages as the radio, including English, German and French. Typical information displayed includes operating mode, current call information, alarm symbols, status and data information, speed call names and received signal strength from the radio system. The handset includes a press- to-talk key to activate the transmit on the radio. A separate built-in speaker and microphone allows hands-free operation. Hands-free intercom between all controllers is possible in a multiple controller system. An automatic gain control (AGC) regulates both the transmit and the receive audio to ensure that the good audio quality provided by the radio system is kept

throughout the M390 system. All radio progress tones received at the MTM700 are passed to the M390 for ease of operation and operator confidence. The system consists of a compact radio interface, sited at the MTM700 radio connected through a RJ 11 connector, and one or more desktop controllers. Up to 15 controllers can be connected to the radio interface, each up to a distance of 600m from the radio interface. Multiple controllers may be connected to one radio interface, either at the time of the installation or by adding additional controllers, as the operation requires but this type configuration is not installed in DMRC as user requires different talk group at a time. A range of external accessories can be added to the M390 including an external desk microphone, headset, footswitch, external amplified speaker and tape recorder.

3. Zetron Radio Interface Box The Radio Interface is located in between handset or remote unit and directly to the MTM700 radio. Six-wire or 3-pair (twisted) wires are connected between the Radio Interface and the Remote Unit. The interface unit consist of two RJ type connections. One of these is connected to radio i.e. RJ45. This connection is connected to DB25 pin connector in radio unit. The second one RJ11 connector is connected to remote unit. These cables are to carry analogue TX/RX audio and balanced serial data (Z bus RS-422-type). Interface unit has also two led which shows (blink red led) the communication of both the unit to this interface. These interface can be used to program zetron sets.

Radio which operate in 12 VDC power need a regulated and high current power supply. As the radio radiate a 3 watt Tx. Hence a high current power supply is need with 12 V output and regulated. This power supply is provided by a regulated power supply with 3 A 12 V DC output which is connected through a RED and a BLACK wire. It consist of a special connector which provide a safety of shorting and reversing the connector at radio end. But a great care is needed in connection at power supply end. The red wire should be connected at +ve and black at ve terminal for confirmation voltage with miltimeter should be measured. The zetron power supply is supported by a adopter of 12V AC. Which is connected internally to power supply switch on one end and connected inside of zetron at other end? 5.4 RAU buttons and functions

The Model 390 presents the standard radio front panel control functions found on the MTM700, as well as a number of additional operator functions valuable in a radio dispatching environment. The display screen shows its various operation and indication for a smooth function. The display shows following information. The signal strength is shown in the top of the display. The mode of operation. i.e talk group, range and mode. The scanning paramenter.etc It consist of LED which shows the indication of Rad, Green and amber A blinking green LED indicator shows if the radio is registered on the system. A red shows that the Radio is not connected or has no signal area. An amber colour shows that the radio is in use e.g. in Private mode. The desk set has 5 major modes of operation: Group Mode - to send and receive an instant communication between you and others within a selected Talk group Private Mode To communicate between two user only. In this two user can communicate each other without interfering group. In this a User ID is dialled for calling. Phone Mode This is a type of phone call in which a radio user can call to any P ABX network number. This is a full duplex call in which handset act like a telephone receiver. Emergency Mode - can be started from any mode by pressing the Emergency key, enables you to send Emergency Alarms and initiate Emergency Group Calls.
