All British Taekwondo Instructors and Coaches

A Summer of Success- A Future of Growth and Opportunity

It is with immense pride and excitement that I write to you today. We all appreciate what a fantastic summer of sport we have just enjoyed. Our four Olympic athletes Jade, Lutalo, Sarah and Martin, played a massive part in that enjoyment. Our Gold medallist Jade and Bronze medallist Lutalo are rightly receiving the accolades they deserve, as well as lots of media attention. I have received many calls and emails from instructors and coaches following the Games and they are all enthusing about the heightened level of interest in WTF Taekwondo at their clubs. Phil Payne of Team Taekwondo, was typical in his comment: I was at the Excel Centre during the Olympic Games when Jade Jones won gold. Judging by the increase of people enquiring about our Olympic Taekwondo classes, many other people also witnessed the best Olympic Taekwondo results we have ever had. Over the last year or so we have seen a massive improvement in membership services, a new coach education program on the way and a new development program for cadets and juniors. With great progress both off and on the mats, it is an exciting time to be a member of the national governing body. We are attracting many former British Taekwondo members back into membership and more people from other styles of martial art as well as more brand new members. As evidence of this, it is an absolute pleasure to report on some statistics. I want to publicly say a massive WELL DONE to all of you, as I can report that we have seen an incredible 20% increase in memberships in August and September from the same period last year. This surge was also clearly evident at the British Taekwondo Martial Arts Technical Team seminar held on 16th September, where we had a near 50% increase on the same event held in 2011. I am delighted to announce that our forthcoming Dan Promotion Test in November has broken the magic 200 barrier, with 202 candidates, which is a near 20% increase on the same event last year. Also, our very own Sarah Stevenson is to deliver a 30 minute presentation on Saturday 10th November at the Dan Promotion at the end of the morning seminar, based upon her Sarah Stevenson Inspires programme. This will be a fitting time to inspire those who are taking the Promotion Test in the afternoon. Sarah is also to be a Guest Examiner on the Dan Promotion Panel on Saturday, adding an extra special dynamic to the day.

As part of the work of LOCOG and the Legacy of the London Olympic Games, we are now in possession of an amount of equipment that was purchased for the Games. Some of this equipment is unique and some we will be signed by our athletes, so they will be a very worthwhile souvenir from the Games to have in use at your club. We will distribute this equipment to British Taekwondo Clubs by way of a series of competitions that will reward the growth we are seeing as a result of the excellent work being done by our Clubs, as well as other schemes. Please see the attached list of competitions. Some of the competitions you will need to specifically enter for. Others will be decided through statistics produced through our Membership Services. Good luck, we look forward to seeing your entries. So once again, a very sincere well done to you all. I remain Respectfully yours
