On the Month of November and December, series of local and national activities were held in Camarines Sur.

As members of Bicol Medical Center - Health Emergency Management Staff, we were committed to be part of various activities and program not only to serve as a primary health care provider that provide quality health care but also as an advocate of health education. We were assigned to different hospital and pre- hospital areas in which we performed various task and responsibility based on the areas that we are assigned. The Emergency Room is a medical treatment facility specializing in acute care of patient and caters emergency cases from medical, trauma, ob-gyne and pediatric emergencies. Doctors and nurses work tirelessly to save and cure all patients who came for emergency care. We classify the patient according to their needs. Good triaging is a key element in the operation of the emergency room. We encounter different patient everyday and different cases whether stabilizing a trauma patient or taking care of a patient suffering from chronic illnesses. Through all the emotion we encounter in the emergency room, quick thinking, and using all knowledge to help perform the necessary interventions to help save the patients lives we are able to stay calm for we see everyone in the room is working as a team, an Emergency Medical Team, together we are delivering the best care we can for the patient. We help to alleviate some of the worry by carefully explaining procedures at the patient as well as answering questions of their relatives may have. We have to multitask and manage our time efficiently while working alongside doctors to stabilize the patient condition. While the Public Safety Office is a pre hospital facility which serves as the first responder for emergency cases, perform certain medical procedures and transport patients to hospital in accordance with protocols and guidelines. They to assess a patient's condition, and perform such emergency medical procedures as are needed to maintain a patent airway with adequate breathing and cardiovascular circulation until the patient can be transferred to an appropriate destination for advanced medical care. Interventions include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, controlling severe external bleeding, preventing shock, body immobilization to prevent spinal damage, and splinting of bone fractures. There had been several of activities and trainings that were held during these months. We were blessed enough to be part of those who were given the opportunity to serve and who will facilitate in the training and be one of the instructors who shares their knowledge and expertise in skills. First of these activities was the 22nd Advertising Congress. A lot of people were expected to join the event so in order to maintain a sense of safe environment; we were deployed in different strategic locations all over Naga City and Capitol Convention Center in Pili to provide easy access to patients in cases of emergencies. Another activity was the Batang Pinoy 2011. Athletes all over the nation were gathered in Naga City to compete in different sports events. In anticipation for some injuries or emergencies that may occur, we were again deployed in all of the sport events to provide prompt interventions in athletes that might experience discomforts or injuries during or after the game.

Of course, the year will not be able to end without attending all the Christmas parties planned. We, the OVG nurses were invited to attend the Christmas party of the employees of Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the ones deployed in the Public Safety Office of Naga as rescuers, were also invited to attend the party of their employees. Some days are harder than others for us to care for our patient but this is our greatest challenge to come every day ready for work and give all our time, knowledge, caring, calmness, and love to those who are facing major turmoil. The months of November and December passed, yet the learning and experience were crafted. We had the opportunity to share our learnings to other at the same time learned from them. We once again proved to ourselves that our competency has improved and to that we could confidently say that we were indeed better nurses.
