PWS&D Giving the Gift of Opportunity in Nicaragua

UNFORGETTABLEthats the word that most accurately describes the two weeks I spent in Nicaragua as a participant on a Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) Youth Food Study Tour, says Colleen Borland. Along with eight other young adults from across Canada, she visited development projects supported by Presbyterian World Service & Development and CFGB to witness firsthand how food security and nutrition programs are changing the lives of small-scale farmers and their families. If I had to choose one lesson that embodies my experience in Nicaragua, it would be this: the most valuable gift you can give someone is opportunity. To learn more about Colleens experience and the work of our church in Nicaragua, read the latest issue of PWSDevelopments. Presbyterian Sharing
CANADA: Reaching up and reaching out

University Presbyterian Church is located in the busy, lowincome Jane & Finch community in north-west Toronto. It is a very diverse neighbourhood, with one of the highest proportions of youth, sole-supported families, refugees, immigrants and public housing tenants of any community in Toronto. University Church is reaching out to the community through its Reaching Up program, which offers a homework club, music school and youth mentoring. The goal is to promote educational excellence as the ultimate solution to overcoming poverty and violence. Presbyterians Sharing supports University Church as it reaches out to families who are seeking to give their children a brighter future.
