WhatsMyM3 Honors Military by Offering Mental Health App to Veterans

Take control of your mental health, know and track your M3 number
In honor of Veterans Day, WhatsMyM3s four-star depression screen now just .99 cents to all military veterans during the month of November. This app makes it easy for veterans to confidentially screen themselves for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and PTSD. The issue of veterans health and mental health, particularly those returning from active duty is of critical importance, said Dr. Gerald Hurowitz, chief medical officer, WhatsMyM3. The epidemic of suicides and the surveyed prevalence of PTSD, depression and related mental health and addictive disorders underscores the fact that mental health conditions are the signature injuries of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The Inspector General of the Department of Defense made the following recommendation in its 2008 Observations of the DoD Task Force on Mental Health: The Department of Defense should create (and continually validate) a measurement tool that will inform the military Services of service members psychological strengths and weaknesses at accession. This tool will help direct training and educational programs tailored to the service members needs. This is a need that WhatsMyM3s screening app addresses, by screening and tracking a service members mental health number, similar to numbers used to track cholesterol, heart disease or body mass index. The WhatsMyM3 27-question screening takes only three minutes to complete and accurately identifies possible risk of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and PTSD. Certainly all Americans are troubled by recent headlines that the preventable deaths by suicide of veterans now outnumber combat deaths and are occurring at a rate of once every 24 hours. Challenges in responding to these issues quickly and effectively portends great social and personal costs to the nation, communities and families. As with previous veterans health issues (Agent Orange, head trauma, etc.) the ability and means to identify those affected and track the problem is a critical first step, said Dr. Steven Daviss, chief medical information officer, WhatsMyM3. This is a population that can be difficult to reach logistically and geographically, and one in which selfempowerment is essential. Continuing issues with the stigma of mental illnesses and a lack of awareness regarding the sentinel signs and symptoms further complicates the outreach and service efforts.

WhatsMyM3 is a confidential, medically validated, web-based, self-administered and scored mental health screening test that involves 27 simple questions that can be answered in three minutes. It presents a novel and powerful tool to reach those affected, to help them become aware of mental health issues that might affect them, and to encourage them to seek treatment and care. The Nation is confronting an ongoing crisis in Veterans Mental Health. No national, non-governmental effort is focused exclusively on addressing these issues. The unique medically validated WhatsMyM3 mental health screener will provide direct assistance to veterans seeking information about their mental health status and risk of suicide. It will also assist them in tracking their individual progress in addressing these issues. Veterans can download the WhatsMyM3 app for iTunes or Android. The test can also be taken free anytime online at whatsmym3.com.
