Rollaero Skating Competition Practice

Rollaero is providing you with an opportunity to practice on their floor the night before the competition. Why should you be there? Every skater, whether new or seasoned, feels nervous during a competition (and thats perfectly normal-it means you care!). Getting the chance to put your routine on an unfamiliar skating floor will make you feel more comfortable and calm your nerves. You will be able to practice where to start in relationship to where the judges will be sitting (this can vary from one competition to the next). In addition, you will be able to familiarize yourself with which direction your routine needs to go. Depending on the individual skater, performing your routine with an unfamiliar setting can be very disorientating. At every competition, the skater may find that the floor feels different. Some floors have a thicker plastic coating than othersthis may make the floor surface seem more slippery or tighter than what they are used to at home. Also, some floors are even made of different material. Most skating floors are wood, but there are rinks out there with cement surfaces. Getting the opportunity to test out the floor before a competition is always in your best interest! Since Rollaero is giving us the opportunity to get on the floor before the competition, I strongly recommend you attend. As your coach, I also have high expectations for you:

Why Become a Member of Aurora Artistic Skating Club?

Being a member of a team or club has many advantages, and Aurora Skating Club is excited to be able to provide you with those benefits! Being a member of a club will give you the opportunity to make friends with people that share a common interest as you. Artistic Roller Skating is a small community, and many of the friends that you make will last a lifetime! When competing, it is extremely motivating to have teammates by your side rooting for you. This builds self confidence and helps the skater feel more comfortable while out on the floor. Also, at a competition you will have the Aurora Skating Club behind your name in the program. Judges look for what club individual skaters are affiliated with, and Aurora is a very prestigious name to have backing you up! Being a member of the Aurora Skating Club will also help out financially. As you know with any new sport, there are always additional costs the first year (equipment, costumes, etc). By joining the Aurora Skating Club for $25, it will reduce practice fee costs. For non club members, the daily

Community Outreach Project

December Test Center Date Set

The Grocery Giving Bag

Part of Aurora Artistic Teams mission is to teach our kids how to give back to the community. Our team will be partnering up with the Aurora Area Interface Food Pantry, Aurora Soup Kitchen, and the Hesed House for our first community outreach project. Each family will receive two brown grocery bags, and we are requesting that each week on your grocery trip you pick up one extra item to donate to a family in need. That one extra item will then go into those grocery bags and before you know it, you will have helped someone out that really needs it in time for the holidays. Each of these three organizations will receive one third of everything that is collected by our team. Any and all skaters, friends, and rink patrons can and are encouraged to participate. The bags will all be collected at the Holiday Test Center on December 16th.

Sunday December 16, 2012

Aurora Skate Center will be holding a holiday test center. Each skater will need to pass 1-3 tests depending on the individual skater. Available tests include freestyle, figures, and dance, and all tests will be evaluated by certified judges. Contact Coach Joe to determine which tests you should be taking and how you can prepare.

Derby Bought Performance

Sunday Dec. 9th at 8pm.

Coach Joe is looking for 5-6 skaters to perform either their freestyle or creative routine to promote our artistic team.
