TITLE: Standard Operating Procedure for Millipore Direct Q 3 UV System 1.

0 PURPOSE

To describe a procedure for the operation and general care of the Millipore Direct Q 3 UV System

2.0

SCOPE

This procedure applies to Millipore Direct Q 3 UV System

3.0

FREQUENCY

As and when required.

5.0

DEFINITION

5.1 SmartPak DQ3- This is a twin cartridge containing three water purification technologies. The first cartridge combines pre-treatment media and a reverse osmosis (RO) membrane, whilst the second contains Ion Exchange resin. 5.2 Reverse Osmosis (RO) water- tap water that has been removed ions, particles, organic molecules and bacteria. 5.3 Purified water- RO water that has passed through UV system and deionised in the Ion Exchange polisher.

PROCEDURE

7.1 7.1.1 7.1.2

Pre checks and filling mode Check that the power switch to the system is OFF. Ensure that the front cover is intact before operating the machine.

7.1.3 Check and ensure that the reject water tubing, feed water tubing and tank outlet tubing are connected. 7.1.4 port. Connect the required tank level sensor to the respective reservoir unit through the sensor

7.1.5 If water source is not connected, connect the feed water tubing to a tap water source and open the tap to feed water to the system. 7.1.6 7.1.7 Turn ON the power switch to start the system. The LCD display unit will display operational parameters and display modes

7.1.8 If a new SmartPak is installed or the SmartPak has been removed from its position and reinstalled, the system will first go to flush mode for 15 minutes, the LCD displays FLU including minutes left to complete flushing cycle, after flushing the system automatically goes to filling mode. 7.1.9 The system contains a 6L internal tank and two external 30 L tank reservoirs.

7.1.10 If the tank is not full, the system will enter the tank filling mode and start filling the tank. 7.1.11 The tank level bars on the right side of the screen will show the tank level. 7.1.12 When the tanks are full, the system will stop and the display will show all the tank level indicator bars as full. 7.2 Dispensing water mode.

7.2.1 Purified water is dispensed from the main dispensing button and RO water from the reservoir tank outlet valve on the front side of the tank. 7.2.2 The system will not dispense anything if the tank level is 10% or less as indicated by a flashing red tank level indicator bar. 7.2.3 To dispense purified water, screw in the final filter (0.22m) on the point of use (POU) solenoid valve, press the button once into a clean vessel, and rinse at least twice with purified water. 7.2.4 The final filter will first fill with water before dispensing.

7.2.5 7.2.6

To stop dispensing, press the dispensing button once. To dispense RO water, open the 30L tank outlet valve by turning it towards yourself.

7.2.7 Product water is regularly recirculated to enhance the quality of water delivered for the Direct-Q 7.2.8 Record conductivity, resistivity and temperature reading from the LCD display.

7.3

Showing system parameters readings.

7.3.1 Press the main and + buttons together to enter the menu. The display will show C01 and the display temperature compensated resistivity in M.cm @ 25C 7.3.2 7.3.3 7.3.4 7.3.5 Press + or - button to select non temperature compensated resistivity in M.cm Press + or - button to select temperature compensated conductivity in S/cm @ 25C Press + or - button to select non temperature compensated conductivity in S/cm All temperature, compensated readings will include actual temperature reading.

7.3.6 The conductivity set point display need to multiplied by 0.001 to get the real value, for example if the display reads 055 S/cm @ 25C, multiplying by 0.001 will give 0.055 S/cm @ 25C as the actual conductivity result 7.3.7 Product water quality specifications are indicated in the table below;

Parameter Resistivity Conductivity

Specifications 18.2 M.cm @ 25C 0.056 S/cm @ 25C < 5 g/L (ppb) with UV

Total Organic carbon(TOC) < 10 g/L (ppb) without UV Micro-organisms

<1CFU/ml (with millipak filter)

7.4

Understanding the operating modes.

Standby mode

7.4.1 STANDBY is displayed when the front cover is removed, the system will depressurize during which STANDBY will be blinking on the display for 10 seconds. All system operations are disabled. 7.4.2 This mode is selected before attempting maintenance on the system

Flush mode 7.4.3 FLU mode is displayed for 15 minutes after a new SmartPak has been installed and the front cover has been closed. Flush mode allows tap water to enter and rinse the new SmartPak. The tank outlet valve must be opened during flush cycle to keep the tank from filling until the SmartPak is rinsed. The system will have a two minute fast flush cycle every 24hrs of PRE OPERATE mode.

Filling tank mode 7.4.4 Filling tank mode is displayed when the tank is being filled with RO water until the 100% tank level display. This is indicated with one two-tank symbols of which one will be empty whilst the other will be full. The filling tank mode is automatically launched when the tank is below 60% or after a flush cycle has been completed. Water can be dispensed or can periodically recirculate during filling tank mode if the tank level is above 10%. Pre operate mode 7.4.5 PRE OPERATE mode is displayed when the system is not dispensing water and not in filling tank mode. The tank level will be between 60%-100%. The system will have a 3 minute autorecirculation every 2 hours in PRE OPERATE mode Dispensing mode 7.4.6 DISPENSING mode is displayed when Product water is being dispensed. This occurs if the dispensing button is pressed down. The resistivity and temperature remain displayed for 10 seconds after dispensing is stopped. Dispensing mode is displayed as two-tank symbols with the left on empty whilst the right being full. 7.4.7 The system enters AUTO DISPENSING mode when the F01 option is selected from the menu. This is used to dispense pre-set volumes of water from the Direct Q. The amount water dispensed and resistivity are shown whilst dispensing. The resistivity and temperature remain displayed up to 10 seconds after dispensing is stopped. To dispense an exact amount of water (F01) 7.4.8 Press the main and -buttons to enter the menu. The menu will display F01

7.4.9 Press the + or -button to adjust the exact amount of product water (L) needed. Pre set volumes of water can be adjusted from 0.25L to 9.75L in 0.25L increments. Accuracy is dependent on the flow rate calibration as covered under 7.5.

7.4.10 Press the dispensing button once, the system will dispense water. The display will show the amount of water dispensed and product resistivity. To stop dispensing, press the dispensing button once again. 7.4.11 To exit the menu, press and hold the main button for 2 seconds. To display the next menu option, press the main button once. Manual recirculation 7.4.12 Press + and -buttons together and the display will show product resistivity and temperature. Water will recirculate for up to 3 minutes before dispensing. This option is used to enhance the quality of the product water before dispensing. 7.4.13 The machine must be switched OFF at the end of working day.
