GEM France FUEL and Retreat
Mark participated in a 3-day leadership training at the end of October at GEMs Camp des Cmes (Camp of the Peaks). This was the fourth of a five session training program for Greater Europe Mission France called FUEL, designed to deepen FAITH and increase UNDERSTANDING so participants will be ENCOURAGED to LEAD where they live and minister. A few years ago, I

completed a predecessor program and have been leading the morning biblical foundation times for the FUEL training. The rest of the GEM France missionaries joined us on November 2 for our annual field retreat where we heard from a French church planter and worked on strategic planning. The Camp des Cmes is in the French Alps, a beautiful place with lots of hiking trails. I spent most of my free time climbing up and down the surrounding mountains, a real delight and refreshment for my soul.

The denomination we work with here, the Protestant Evangelical Reformed Church, like most Protestant denominations in France, does not have enough pastors to fill the pulpits of their churches. Many churches are small and cannot afford a full-time pastor or even a part-time one. In the south-west region of France where we live, several of our churches lost their pastors last year and are asking our church in Montauban for pastoral help. We are the largest church in the region (with around 75 members) and have two pastors. Starting this summer, Mark is preaching monthly at St. Antonin, a small town 45 minutes east of us. Now, he is beginning to preach regularly at the church in Toulouse, 45 minutes south. He may be going 3 hours west to Bordeaux from time to time as well. The good thing is that he doesnt need to create new sermons each time, but it is frustrating to see the needs of these small churches and only being able to serve them for half a Sunday from time to time because we havent cut back on our work here in Montauban. Please ask God to provide godly pastors for these small churches. Pray for strength and wisdom for Mark as he ministers among them. Ask that God will strengthen the foundation of Jesus Christ and make the gospel of the Kingdom announced from these outposts.
