NOVEMBER 11, 2012 THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Prayer After An Election

God of all nations, Father of the human family, we give you thanks for the freedom we exercise and the many blessings of democracy we enjoy in these United States of America. We ask for your protection and guidance for all who devote themselves to the common good, working for justice and peace at home and around the world. We lift up all our duly elected leaders and public servants, those who will serve us as president, as legislators and judges, those in the military and law enforcement. Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord, with a common purpose, dedication, and commitment to achieve liberty and justice in the years ahead for all people, and especially those who are most vulnerable in our midst. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY

(TIME, TALENTS & TREASURE IN THE SERVICE OF THE LORD)

Introduction: A word of thanks to all the parishioners who are actively involved in the various ministries in our parish which impact the lives of a lot of people, and who sacrificially and regularly make their financial contribution to our parish. Who is a steward? He is somebody's manager. We are all stewards of God because, as Psalm 24 reminds us, God is the sole owner of everything we have: "The earth is Lord's and all that is in it." St. Peter reminds us of our duty of stewardship: "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1Peter 4:10). The New Testament refers to our stewardship to God 87 times. Paul claims that he is the steward of Christ's gospel. The good steward never forgets that God is the source of all he possesses and that all his possessions are given to him in trust, and he handles them accordingly. Time, Talents, Treasure: There are three areas of stewardship: time, talents and treasure. Accepting the Biblical model of returning 10% of the "first fruits" to the Lord, we attempt to utilize at least 10% of our time for prayer, reflection, and works of mercy and ministry. Our talents are to be used to glorify the Giver by using them wherever they are needed, in our parish or in our community. Our treasure or earning is offered as tithing for the maintenance of the parish church, worship, Sunday school, youth formation, bible study classes, outreach activities in the community and evangelization programs.

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Stewardship of Treasure Enhancing the Year of Faith

Have you read the Stewardship of Treasure section of the Bulletin each week, you will notice that we have approximately 1,380 registered families. However, the number of families making contributions each week is always much less than that. Everyones financial situation is different, and that is understood. Any contribution, large or small, is much appreciated. For those families (households) who dont regularly give, please consider the impact that even a small regular donation would make. We are encouraging not only families with children, but all households. If 100 families would make contributions according to the table below, that would result in an extra $590 per week, and more than $30,000 over the course of a year!
Number of Families 40 30 20 10 Weekly contribution $1 $5 $10 $20

Our parish religious formation program for our children, among other areas, depends on the giving of all. You know the challenges you encounter at home with paying your bills and keeping your home running. The same applies to the parish. As you know, we are not aware of your status at home, if we can sit down with you and listen, this would be the first good step toward stewardship of time, talent and treasure. We need to take this first step, during this Year of Faith, so we can continue religious formation for our children. If you do receive parish envelopes, please use them, if you need envelopes let us know. Thank you for those parishioners and non-parishioners that already use the envelopes in some way. Thank you to those who also contribute to the work of the food pantry, ministries appeal, etc. As we enter into this stewardship month, let us prayerfully reflect upon how gracious God has been to us. God is goodAll THE TIME! Fr. Jarosz

Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 FROM THE BISHOP CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Page 5

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For over 40 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has come to the aid of organizations nationwide in an effort to eradicate poverty in America. Just as the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that the Churchs love for the poor . . . is a part of her constant tradition (no. 2444), it is also the tradition of CCHD to love the poor by helping to end the cycle of poverty. Last year, your generosity to CCHD allowed grants for 9 local organizations working to make a difference in our communities. Two of these organizations are Community Outreach, Shining Light NFP of West Chicago, and School on Wheels, sponsored by the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Community Outreach, Shining Light NFP, West Chicago, was established in 2011 to serve the poor and vulnerable in the area of West Chicago and surrounding communities. This organization seeks to empower, educate, and provide life/job skills programs, emotional and spiritual support for unplanned pregnancy, tools for practical job skills to reach full potential, outreach to the community, family values, positive self-esteem, and partner with area schools to promote higher education and learning. The programs provide domestic violence counseling, support, and education. School on Wheels, Congregation of St. Joseph, LaGrange Park, was established in 1993 to provide ESL classes for the poor and vulnerable of western Chicago and the suburbs. The School on Wheels bus visits the communities of Woodridge, Hodgkins, Cicero, Summit, and Westmont weekly. The program and volunteer tutors are flexible enough to provide English tutoring that is specialized to the individual needs. More than just providing direct service, the volunteers and students make connections with each other and their communities; develop leadership, community awareness, and appreciation for cultural differences. Some students become volunteers and community leaders. Through CCHD the Catholic Church is working to continue its tradition of love for the poor. Please help the efforts of CCHD to break the cycle of poverty. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Support CCHD in the upcoming Collection. And remember, 25% of the Collections proceeds stay here in our diocese to fight poverty in our communities and defend the dignity of our neighbors. For more information about the Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and the groups it funds, please visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections. God bless you, Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Bishop of Joliet

November 2012 Theme for the Year of Faith: Seek the One Truth:
Faith and Science, Creed Connection: God the Father Almighty During this Year of Faith, Pope Benedict calls on the faithful to renew their commitment to the Catholic Church by enlivening their faith. If you would like to research the Vatican II Constitution: Sacrosanctum Concilium (Sacred Liturgy), Ch. 3-5, Sacraments, Divine Office and Liturgical Year. The Catechism paragraph numbers 185421/Belief in God the Father. Pray Genesis 1-2, and Isaiah 56:1-8. As a family discuss faith and science.

Prayer in the Christian Life 11/14/12 7pm in PLC

When we ask, Lord, teach us to pray (Lk 11:1), How does Jesus respond? You are welcome to join us this week. Below are two prayers that the participants wrote during class. Prayer for SVDP clients: Merciful father, through thy bounty help those of us who have so much to provide help for those in need, so that they can care for themselves and their families. Thank you for the generous parishioners wo help provide for the needy. Praise to you for allowing us to be your hands in helping others, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Prayer for families this Advent Season: God our heavenly Father, we lift up all the family members of this parsh that they will be enlightened by the Holy Spirit during this Advent season. We ask that each of us remember to thank you for your gifts and unconditional love for us by giving us your only Son. We ask Jesus, through the intercession of our blessed Mother. Amen.

Hence the whole Christian life is a communion with each of the divine persons, without in any way separating them. Everyone who glorifies the Father does so through the Son in the Holy Spirit; everyone who follows Christ does so because the Father draws him and the Spirit moves him. (CCC, n.259)

All families that will be receiving first Eucharist this year must attend the retreat. Please call Sherry at 630-396-6076

Here is an opportunity for you. CCW will be collecting newborn baby clothes to give to the moms at Womans Choice, in Jesus name, at its December 17th meeting. Put Baby Jesus on your shopping list, pick out a baby outfit and join us on Monday morning. You may also drop off your gift in the Narthex on Saturday, December 15 or Sunday, December 16. REFLECTION:
Each one of us is a co-worker of Christ we must labour hard to carry Him to the hearts where He has not yet been known and loved. But, unless we have Jesus, we cannot give Him; that is why we need the Eucharist. Spend as much time as possible in front of the Blessed Sacrament and He will fill you with His strength and His power. Tell Him, 'Come to our hearts Lord and stay with us'. Then you will become the instruments of His love, peace and joy." Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

New Hymnals for Our Parish

Christ the King Parish will introduce a new hymnal this coming Advent. After researching the many publishers options, we have chosen the new Gather Third Edition hardbound hymnal as our principle liturgical resource. This new hymnal will include much of the loved music our community is familiar with, but also offers much new music. The hymnal will also include the scripture readings and mass parts for us all in the same book. The Hymnal will include: The Three Year Cycle of Readings and Responsorial Psalms (this replaces the softbound missalette) The People's new responses in the Mass Many New musical settings of the revised Ordinary of the Mass (Lord have mercy, Gloria, Holy, holy, Mystery of Faith....) Hundreds of hymns (This replaces the current softbound hymnal) The Hymnal will have our church name and location imprinted in gold lettering on the front cover. Therefore we will have ONE Hardbound book to use at Mass for years into the future! You are welcome to donate a hymnal by contributing $20. You may honor a person, event, or milestone; or memorialize a loved one or friend. This information will be placed on a label affixed to the inside cover of the hymnal. A label to honor an event or person may read (these are only examples): In Loving Memory of our mother, Mercedes Rios 1946 - 2007 Given by her loving family. You may contribute by: 1. Emailing your information to the Music Office, bill@ctklombard.org and then sending or bringing your contribution 2. Visiting the Rectory Office with your information and contribution 3. Calling the Rectory Office with your information, 630.396.6075 and sending or bringing your contribution 4.
