RESEARCH LOG

Since you are only in music class once a week, and this project is going to take multiple classes to
complete, you are going to need to use your time wisely and keep track of what you have done. Each
week you are responsible for filling out your research log to show me what you have done and to keep
track of your research. If you fill it out and keep up with it, your final project will be easier to create as
well.
Day 1: By the end of day 1 you should have chosen your composer and filled out your KWL. You
should also begin writing down any questions in particular you want to answer in your
research.

Day 2: Today you will begin your search for information about your composer. Use your questions from
Day 1 as a starting point. Make sure you take careful notes about where your information is coming
from as well as what information you are collecting. When you have to cite your resources at the end
of the project, good notes will help make it easier to do so!

KEYWORDS: A keyword or keywords help you look for your topic and answers to your questions.
Example: What did the Ancient Egyptians wear? Or How did the Ancient Egyptians live?
Examples of keywords would be Ancient Egyptians costume dress daily life
In the above example using quotation marks tells a search engine to look for examples ONLY where
Ancient Egyptians appears together. It makes your search more specific.

Day 3: You have had a day to research your composer in the media center and computer lab. Today
you will be searching for multimedia to add to your presentation at the end of the unit. Again,
be sure to take careful notes about your sources so you can cite them! Your goal is to have
one audio example, one video and one picture. If there are no videos available that relate to
your composer, you will need to have a second audio example or picture to take the videos
place in the final presentation. **This is also your chance to finish up any other research you
need to fill in any holes in your research from Day 2!** Once your research is complete, you
should begin filling out the timeline worksheet to help you organize your thoughts for the
final paper and presentation.

product. Make sure to create a resources section at the end. You can use the APA Format
Practice Sheet to help you with the citations. Use the rubric to make sure that you include all
of the necessary points in your writing. Dont forget! In a couple weeks you will turn your
writing project into a multimedia presentation that you will share with classmates and

Day 5: Today you are going to finish the written portion of your final project. You will be typing it on
the computer in the computer lab. Make sure to review your work using the rubric for the
written paper before you print the final copy. Once you are finished, print it out and add it to
your Research Log packet. If you finish before the end of the class period, look over the rubric
for the multimedia presentation and begin drafting your presentation.
