This has been a tough issue for us here at static paper. Its been a time of deep conversations, heated discussions, heartbreak, and eye-opening information. Abortion is hard and the tentacles from it reach far and wide. Its not something any woman goes through alone. It touches every part of our being and every part of our life.
Being a believer and being pro-life (almost always) go hand in hand. Because Gods Word tells us that He has fearfully and wonderfully made us in our mothers womb (see Psalm 139:14), we believe life begins at conception. and because His Word tells us we should not kill (see exodus 20:13), we believe that killing a child in the womb is against Gods Law. the Bible often speaks of children and calls them a heritage from the Lord (see Psalm 127:3) and throughout Scripture it is very clear the Lord controls a womans womb. He opens it in His time and closes it in His time. He has a plan for each of us. its easy enough to say you dont believe in abortion and that having one is wrong...until you are faced with the decision. Weve given you the statistics, and when you read that 37% of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 28% identify themselves as Catholic and that one in five women having abortions claims to be a born again or evangelical christian, we have to stop and ask, why? Why are so many women of faith choosing to end the life of a child their God created? one response we found sums it all up, the social consequences of their unplanned pregnancies are much higher than that of non-christians. if you Google christian women having abortions, its not an easy read. many of the message boards are kind and considerate, calling for grace, mercy, and love for the sinner and repentance for the sin. you dont have to go in thereits not a safe place. We can help you, Jennifer told ashley, who was entering a late-term abortion clinic in Albuquerque. She was about seven months pregnant. ashley froze while holding the open door to the clinic and asked, you can really help me? a team of three sidewalk counselors continued to share with her the many ways they could help. We can help you with free ultrasounds, counseling, housing, medical, financial assistance, education, adoptions, pregnancy and parenting classes, maternity clothing, and baby items. and they insisted, We can help you keep your baby. they further informed ashley that the clinic she was about to enter was currently under investigation for unsafe medical practices. there had been 11 botched abortions in the past four years at this clinic. But even after much pleading with her, ashley looked at them with tears in her eyes and said, i cant, and disappeared into the clinic. Jennifer and the others broke down in tears and prayed. as a former pro-choicer, i got my picture of pro-lifers from the media. they portray all pro-lifers as crazy radicals who scream judgment at girls entering the abortion clinics. the problem was, i had never spoken with them or gone to the clinics to see for myself what pro-lifers actually do. and guess what? the media is wrong. From what i saw, many of the men and women lining the clinics have huge hearts for women and their unborn. ive never heard pro-lifers screaming judgment at the women. they dont act like lunatics. these pro-lifers are there to save women from the pain of abortion. the media finds the bad example of a pro-lifer and sells it as the standard. the media is wrong. the clichs we hear about pro-lifers and abortion are simply misleading. mary LeQuieu, executive director of care Net Pregnancy Center in Albuquerque said, Womens choice is not what you think. sixty to eighty percent of the women entering the clinics do not want the abortion. they

are being pressured and coerced by their boyfriends, husbands, or parents. mary shared that she had been pressured and intimidated into an abortion by the abortionist doctor. my whole personality changed after that. it was horrible. i want to save girls from this pain. mary now works to counsel women who have chosen life. she also counsels women who are post-abortive. these women need healing. mary says she is often asked: What about rape? How can you expect a girl who has been raped to have a baby? she responds, abortion mimics rape in many ways, physically and mentally. it amplifies the rape. Women who are raped need healing, and having an abortion makes the situation worse. the rape doesnt go away. another respected pro-life advocate, melissa, lives in North carolina. she shared a story about her recent visit to her towns abortion mill. Her group parked their mobile RV with ultrasound equipment outside the abortion clinic. the sidewalk counselors encouraged ladies to see their babies before making a final decision. (many abortion clinics will not let you see your own ultrasound. they make a lot of money by performing abortions.) On that day, two women who entered into the ultrasound rV decided to give their babies life! melissa also shared the story of a 14-yearold girl named susana who had been raped by her step-brother. susanas father gave her an ultimatum: Have an abortion or get out. after several threats, susana chose not to have an abortion but to leave her fathers house. Who took susana in? the pro-lifers in the area did. Susana just turned 15 and plans to have the baby. pro-lifers walk alongside brave girls who, like susana, choose life. they show them they are not alone. Bud and tara shaver are full-time prolife missionaries in Albuquerque. Youll find Bud at a local abortion mill almost any day. He explains, New mexico is considered the wild, wild west of abortion because it doesnt have laws protecting women and their unborn. theres even a website for this clinic where you can view a video of the

owner admitting to performing abortions on girls as young as nine years old. He knows there are no parental notification or consent laws in New mexico. (Let me ask youwho takes a nine-year-old girl in for an abortion?) Because of the lax protection laws, people from all over the U.s. and even people from england, mexico, and canada have traveled to this specific clinic to have their abortions. Bud and tara work fervently to offer these women help and hope. Because of their efforts, many women have chosen life for their babies, and they are heroes in my book. Learn more about their ministry at prayerandaprolifewitness.blogspot.com. remember ashley, the woman i shared about earlier? After 45 minutes in the clinic, and after the sidewalk counselors resolved in their hearts that she was following through with the abortion, ashley walked out of the clinic. i didnt do it, she said. Jennifer and ashley hugged and cried tears of joy. Jennifer took ashley out to lunch and learned more about her life. ashley hadnt had very many happy endings but this one was! Jennifer took ashley to project defending Life, where she saw her baby on the ultrasound. Her heart filled with joy. project defending Life continued to counsel ashley and put her up in a bed-andbreakfast for the night. they also paid for airfare for ashley to travel to a place where she would be surrounded by friends who would support her. over the next couple of months, ashley kept in contact with project defending Life and with Jennifer. and recently, Jennifer received a card in the mail from ashley that read, thank you for the gift of my son.
