It is worth remembering the findings of Jim Collins 5 year study to distinguish good and great leaders. A readable summary of this study can be found at http://www.jimcollins.com/article_topics/articles/themisguided-mixup.html . I recommend all panellists read it before considering applications. Level 5 Leaders (those that create sustained social change) are humble but determined; deal directly with contradiction; focus on quality; attend to people before strategy; give credit to others; are quiet and determined; are intolerant of mediocrity; rely on raising standards, do not try to be charismatic; avoid publicity and are unconcerned about the trappings of success.
