Dear Ultra-Athlete,
I am pleased to introduce UltrAspire, Inspired Products
for Ultra-Athletes. In all my years of designing, it has
always been my dream to build packs for others that I
would choose for myself without worrying about price,
volume, or mass production. It is not my goal to be all
things to all peoplejust to provide extraordinary
choices for extraordinary people. People, who know when something feels right
and good.
The most intuitive ideas for such products emerge from the interface of both
engaging in the activity, and the active involvement and interaction of other
dedicated athletes, who are inspired by what they do and what they need to do
it. Finally, testing by all, feedback, more feedback and an on-going evolution of
perfection.
It is evident that every athlete has diferent needs and goals, but all have some basic,
very human, requirements. Among these: comfort, t, freedom of movement,
function, ease of access, and a product that meets the needs of the moment
whether for training, hydrating on the y, or achieving a PR.
Being involved in ultra-events brings one into a new family with a shared
experience; where, each person is important; where, excruciating moments are
shouldered by all and where the smallest of triumphs uplifts the whole!

InSpirAtion Hydration
InSpired Products
great deal of thought and consideration goes into our choice of
materials. They must be high quality, non-toxic, feel good in the
hand, be durable, enable the end product to be easily and properly used,
have proper squeeze-ability, taste quality and clean-ability.
We use a BPA-free LDPE for our bottles, which is preferred over PP for
most sport applications because of its hand feel and squeeze-ability. (We
know what its like to be a fatigued runner in the later stages of a long
race trying to squeeze an impossible bottle!) We also use Tritan, when
squeeze-ability is not an issue and stability is preferred, and Silicone, both
of which, have great taste quality.
What Makes our Bottles Better?
1. Ergonomics: Our special shaped and angled bottles may seem odd
at rst, until the mechanics of function is understood: First, the shape
accommodates and feels good in your hand. Second, angles help deliver
the uids without the requirement of dramatically tilting back your head to
allow for liquid delivery.
2. Polarity: Magnetic energy is lighter weight, and saves time and efort
retrieving, stowing, and keeping bottles in your pack; it may also impart
substantial health benets to the liquid enclosed. We did some research,
we are convinced, that like water emerging from a mountain spring infused
with the magnetic energy of the earthits simply healthier for the human
body.
3. LDPE: Our squeezable bottles are made of low-density polyethylene.
This is a BPA-free material so you dont have to worry about chemicals
leaching into your uid.

Comfort, Fit, Function, Freedom of Movement,
Ease of Use, and Customizable Utility are
inter-related attributes of UltrAspire products.
Comfort: Redesigned basics to really t the human bodyin all its shapes
and sizes! The result is Human Contoured Belts, Vests and Packs designed
to enhance performance without binding, impeding or inhibiting freedom of
movement. The belly is now liberated from a buckle and that extra space used
more comfortably, conveniently and efectively.
Fit: Proper t enhances Comfort. Holsters, pockets, and other access points
should be positioned correctly no matter the size of the wearer. When
practical, pieces have been sized to achieve a second skin, not too tight and
not too loose. Balance is maintained for weight distribution. Compressi-ex
provides just enough give while maintaining gentle, stabilizing, compression
without impeding body function, movement or freedom.
Ease of Use: Proper t aids easy usage. Properly positioned holsters, pockets
and other stowage is essential for smooth access of utility even from storage
located at the back. With properly

Adjust Velcro side once, then speed
hooks provide for rapid entry and exit.
Function: Ease of Use assists in a high level of functionality

designed features such as the Body Rhythm Harness, Compressi-
ex attachment points, Polarity System equipped hydration systems, MBS system which includes
interchangeable management, speed hooks, and body shaped contoured belts and vests, and even small,

UltrAspire Athletic Director
& Elite Immortal Krissy Moehl
Krissy Moehl, UltrAspire Athletic Director and Elite Immortal, holds a deep
inner capacity to accomplish the seemingly impossible while being happy,
smiling and inspiring to those around her. She is a leader to others, fosters
a can do attitude, understands running her own race, and encourages
others to do the same.
Perhaps being a race director at Chuckanut for many years, has added to
her deep sense of caring for others and her desire that each successfully
encounter challenges. After learning the course was diverted by sabotaged
signage during the Red Mt 50K, Krissy left her position closing in on rst
overall, to make sure others did not get, or remain, of course. After
making sure all was in order, and a signicant time loss, Krissy was back on
the course, ultimately becoming the rst woman over the nish line.
She also has a long history of working with Bryce on hydration systems; sharing both training and racing
adventures almost as long as she has been ultra-running. Of this history and experience she says: the process of
testing products in all circumstances and collaborating with the designer to dial them in to the best functioning
pieces possible is basically all I know and understand of how to make the best gear out there! She adds: With
UltrAspire, I feel we have taken this process one step further by starting the brand, from the very rst samples, as
products on elite athletes. Rather than trying to tell the market what they need, the UltrAspire line is being built
from, and will evolve out of, the feedback given by athletes and we will make the products that are needed and
wanted by the market.

Husband and wife tean Jereny and Adriane rehner began running Marathons together
in 2004 and have run over 40 marathons, 15 Ultra Marathons, and thirteen 31-50 milers.
Adriane completed her rst 100-mile race in October
2010, and is the rst woman to have completed the
Pony Lxpress I00-nile course. Jereny and Adriane
are avid trail runners and race directors for the Red Mountain 50k, A Hurricane JLM all trail
Marathon and the Dirty Hurty, all trail Half Marathon in St. George UT.
They love working with UltrAspire developing and testing products that will enhance the trail
running and ultra running experience. They feel the most impressive aspect of UltrAspire, is
the way the experience of athletes is used to create the
product. Gathering data from real life, everyday, athletes
and elites alike, to produce products for use in the real
world. Our feedback goes directly to the prototypes
then to production.
Jereny loves the inetic Pack and uses it for every kind

Compressi-ex
Compressi-ex tension control and dual side compression allows for stabilizing a
load without restricting movement. The idea behind a sport vest is that pressure
points may be virtually eliminated, because, theoretically, the weight is distributed
more evenly, however, with a larger load even a vest can start to feel heavy, unstable
and oppy, and may not stabilize without excessive tightening which constricts
freedom. This could seem like a catch-22, but Compressi-ex enables compression
of the load and a comfortable t without constricting body movement.

This pack began as a custom pack for Elite Immortal Krissy Moehls return trip
to the UTMB at Mont Blanc to defend her record and rst place nish. But,
many of our immortals saw prototypes of this pack and wanted it too! We
thought there must be more runners out there who would feel the same way
about this incredibly light weight and surprisingly accommodating, pack.
Though a challenge to create a pack that was both light enough to wear for a
hundred plus mile race, and large enough to stow all the necessary equipment,
this paradox has found itself a home in the Omega.

ne thing that epitonizes Justin as an Llite nnortal is his love of self-supported Ultra racing. He feels his run
at the Plain 100, which is completely self-supported and without aid stations, characterizes his running goals
and desires where it is just him and his gear. As he tells it: Its a 100-miler that is completely self-sufcient.
Just you and your gear. You have to have it dialed fron the rst step because
there is no chance for a redo, no crew to bail you out, no aid station to help you
in need. I worked on my pack conguration and hydration system tirelessly and
I think simplicity and design were real keys to my success in that race (a win
and course record).
What he feels is key about UltrAspire is that: It starts and ends with athletes.
At the heart of this, he feels is Bryce whom he describes as: an athlete who was pushing the limits well
before any of us knew what endurance was. He was and is a pioneer, yet he doesnt rest on that. He has
engaged a new generation of endurance athletes who are redening extreme (though Bryces Grand
Teton record remains untouched!). The products are performance driven from start to nish.
ey goals in in 20I2 for Justin include getting back on the John Muir 1rail. He attenpted to do it fast
in 2006 but feels this didnt end well. My gear was not ideal. He is excited to work with UltrAspire on
sone packs that will greatly enhance his future experience on that trail. Justin feels a unique power
whenever he runs on an Islandwhere he remains undefeated.

Je has nished over 50 ultra-narathons since stunbling onto the sport in 200I. With the
philosophy that. it doesnt get interesting til 50 niles, Je prefers the longer distances, especially
100 milers. He likes them so much hes managed to win seven of the eleven 100-milers he has
entered while achieving several course records
to boot.
In addition to running in the mountains, commuting 8-miles to work on his bike, and
organic gardening he somehow still nds the energy and time for his beautiful wife,
3 children, six chickens, and head coaching Bend, Oregons, Little Foot Running Club
introducing kids K-5 to the wild world of running!
A self-proclaimed gear geek, artist and graphic designer, he has been known to
cut shoes apart and chart their weight, duct tape packs together after customizing
them, and beg his wife to sew extra pockets on his shorts in the eternal search for the
Shangri-La of gear. So, his relationship with UltraSpire was an intuitive and natural one.
The development process has been a welcome pool of creativity thats a great t for
him. His favorite pack is the Spry and his sketches helped inspire the Revolution pack. In 2012, hell be focusing on Western States 100
and Wasatch 100. He rounds out the UltrAspire team as the minimalist nesse side of running of which he has made a ne art.

Body Rhythm Harness

A runners body is not level and static. Arms, torso, hips and legs not only operate
independently of each other, but also in a combination of simultaneous opposing
angles and forces: rotation between hips and shoulders, contra-postal (exing) torso,
and alternating extension of legs and arms. Unlike all other packs, which restrict this
complex movement, the multi-directional movement is freely allowed by the Body
Rhythm Harness. It works through a single strap that simultaneously operates to hold
the pack close and low to the wearer without pulling up on the pack, and also runs
completely behind and through the small of the wearers back allowing for the full range

Dana Mud and Guts Miller lives life with verve. Of his eighteen Wasatch 100 nishes, he has set two course
records and obtained ve wins. He also holds an unofcial Double Wasatch.
Dana and Bryce, the creator of UltrAspire and originator of Ultimate
Direction have a long history of working together to produce great
running packs. Dana says: I got my rst Ultimate Direction pack from
Bryce after winning the 1987 Wasatch 100 and I have been running in
Bryces creations since then.
Danas athletic accomplishments include: Inaugural Eco Challenge, Mild Seven Outdoor
uest (China) adventure races, World Masters snowshoe chanpion (Leadville, C), Hawaii
Ironman nisher (1982); And, Utah state time trial champion; He helped establish two running
clubs. One of his high school cross country teams won the national TAC championship.
He feels two key ingredients are behind successful packs: 1. Actual personal experience in the
related sports activity in all climates and conditions; and, 2. Soliciting feedback from athletes,
and listening to them. Dana wants to nish top twenty at Wasatch in 2012 and set a new 60+
age group record.

Bryce Thatcher
Bryce Thatcher, innovator and inventor of hydration packs, is a dedicated adventure and endurance athlete
whos record ascent/descent of the Grand Teton of 3:06 still stands after 25 years. In 1986, he founded
Ultimate Direction, which became the market leader for the ultra-endurance athlete market. He later sold
this business to Sierra Designs of American Recreational Products where he worked until 2003. He then, co-
founded Elite Creators, LLC. In 2004, he went to work with Penguin Brands, Inc., and Nathan Sports Products
until 2010.
Bryce has worn his own packs for many of his own
adventures: as a two-time All-American cross-country skier;
while participating in an MS adventure race in Lijiang, China, while pioneering
fast packing on a record-setting run of Highline Trail in Wyomings Wind River
Range; while making a record sub-9 hour self-supported solo ride of Utahs, 103
mile White Rim Trail and in winning his Idaho and Utah State Cycling Time Trial titles.
He is an avid trail runner. He has also created specialty packs for other great athletes
specically for their individual quests.
Bryce will always aspire to be an extreme endurance athlete. Not only because he
loves pushing his limits but also because he feels it is key to keeping up with the
evolving needs of the athlete and in furthering innovation and design. His ideas
come to him in practice and develop intuitively from concept through marketing, in
practice.

Krissy Moehl
Karl Meltzer
Krissy Moehl, Elite Immortal, had a desire to conquer the boundaries
of her own limitations from a vary young age. In 2005, she became
the youngest female ever to complete the Grand Slam with the second
fastest accumulative time for the four 100 mile races. She attributes
much of her success to the support and inspiration of her mother.
Other stats include: 2007 HURT Female winner & set course record
(since broken); 2007 Hardrock Female winner & set course record (since
broken); 2009 Western States 100 - second place female.
In 2009 she circumnavigated the 93-mile Wonderland trail around Mt. Rainier with Ellen Parker.
The same year she also ran in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc nishing 11th over all and female
winner. Another proud moment for Krissy was becoming the 2010 Shinetzu Five Mountains
110km female winner and in 2011 at San Diego 100 she was 6th overall, female winner and
course record holder.
Krissy plans to race her rst Ironman in 2012 and return to the Western States 100. She thinks of
herself as a Gypsy road warrior. A life in which, she is thoroughly immersed. I love extended
road trips that involve races, trails, eats and visits with friends all over the country.
With over 100 Ultras including thirty 100-miler wins, Karl Meltzer is the consummate Ultra-athlete. There isnt
much he nds daunting. As he puts it, when I break the Appalachian Trail record, I can go down as one of the
most diversied runners ever.
In Karls career, he has always tried to run diferent things, raise the bar in certain ways. The Pony Express
Trail and the Appalachian Trail gave him a diferent perspective on what is far. Karl says, Although running for
54 days on the AT or 40 on the Pony Express is not really something any ultra-runners really look at as a huge
accomplishment, it is to me. Long Trails like these take it to another level--an endurance level--that even the
best 100-mile runners on earth have a hard time swallowing.
Karl certainly runs to the beat of his own drum and does what he likes. For
example, he doesnt care how much you pay him, if he doesnt like it, he wont
wear it! Honesty is important to himhe wants people to know what works for
him and what doesnt. Karl notes that Ultraspire, works with athletes and uses the
info we give, many companies take suggestions and push them aside. Ive seen
my suggestions really used, which makes Ultraspire very unique and great to work

For 2012, Karls main goal is the AT and nothing else. For this event he will use the

Molecular Belt System (MBS)
Its Simple:
1. Choose a Nuclear Core Option each with the same footprint but equipped with a range
of choices. Base your decision on the level and duration of your activity, hydration, support
and supplement needs. The core piece will typically be worn posterior.
2. Choose a sized MBS compatible connector (typically worn anterior) based on your waist or hip measurement; (Dont worry
about the width of the Nuclear Core piece, its been included). Base your choice of connector belts on additional personal
support needs. Ask yourself: What else do I need and want to take with me? Choose the connector that ts your answer.
3. Size and simply assemble. Locate the red Speed Hook, an aluminum hook specially designed to be adjustable and non-
slipping and attach it to the loop on the left side of your Nuclear Core.
Hold these together against the front of your body and feed the free end of the connector through the metal ring attached to the
core. Once through the ring, return the end of the connector belt back over the metal ring and itself rmly attaching the Velcro to
the belt.
If you prefer placement low on the hips you may want a tighter t. Adjust the Velcro just once for perfect t. Dont touch the
Velcro again for regular usage; just use the Speed Hook for quick in and out.
Nuclear Core Options
Each Nuclear Core option has the same footprint and/or width as every other Nuclear Core option making each completely
interchangeable without switching or changing connector belts or length. Every connector belt is completely interchangeable
as well, which means one combination or conguration may be used for training and another for race day. Because there are
currently eight diferent Nuclear Core options and ve diferent connector options, that allows for 40 diferent combinations. We
want you to rock!

Heather is a 4 x Ironman champion and has taken the Ironman in St.

Anong the great races Joe Grant has either under his belt or coning up are. Hardrock I00, Colorado
Trail Speed Record attempt, Nolans 14, Ultra-Trail du Mt. Blanc. His accomplishments in 2011 include rst
place nishes in 9.I3.03 at San Juan Solstice 50M, and a rst place tine of 4.49.59 at Golden Gate Dirty
Thirty 50KM. He nished 6th at Chuckanut 50KM where he placed
4th overall the year before.
In 2010 he had a great year as well, which included a rst place nish
at Desert Solstice 24HRS completing 133.595 miles! He also placed second at Bighorn 100M with
a time of 19:48:32. One of the more diverse and challenging runs may have been the Tonto
Traverse in the Grand Canyon where he, self-supported, ran over 96 miles in 32 hours.
Joe feels the developnent process at UltrAspire is very dynanic and inclusive. 1here is a tight
relationship between the athletes and the designers to tinker and rene each pack so that its the
best possible tool for the activity!
He is focusing mainly on 100 milers as he also sees and explores Northwest Canada and Alaska.

pursuits.

In two decades of ultras, Roch Horton has 38 one hundred miler nishes with ten at Hardrock. Occasionally,
he has led the 50ish age group into the top ten. He observes UltrAspire as being totally hands on and core
focused. He has an interesting perspective in that he feels Bryce Thatcher, UltrAspires designer and creator,
has shaped how runners approach running. He says [UltrAspire] has an advantage: with the many years of
Bryces evolutionary product background in which we have all fashioned our running styles around. An added
benet to such experience: Nothing is added that isnt needed. Though hes never been much of a vest guy,
the Omega is becoming my go-to favorite for both racing and training. UltraAspire nailed it with this one.
Rochs goals: Run anything high, wild and handsome; remain
healthy and competitive and continue to contribute to the sport. He adds: another
sub 24 hour Wasatch 100 would be pretty cool!
His rst memorable running feat consisted of running naked across the lawn in front of
my brothers and sister as they caught the school bus. I was 2 years old. Running later
became a practical way in and out of the mountains during many years of climbing and
mountaineering. His rst real race, however, was the Leadville Marathon, 8+ hours.
He says hes still sore! Now he runs because its 65% physical 99% mental.
Roch resides in Salt Lake City, Utah near the greatest trails on earth. He has been happily partnered with Catherine for 26 years. He
is currently employed at Black Diamond Equipment-climbing and backcountry ski equipment manufacturer. He is a former Patagonia
rep. His heroes include his non for letting hin run around the yard naked, anyone who can do nore with less, John DeWalt-the /5
year-old nisher of the 2006 Hardrock 100.

Luke Nelson
Elite Immortal Duncan Callahans daily runs bring him clarity of thought and life perspective. The clarity helps
him create head-space which, in turn, helps him to better manage and advance life. He feels fortunate to
have the mental, physical and emotional benets of running in his life.
The Leadville 100 is Duncans dening race and one of the most important events on his race calendar for
many years. During which time, he as achieved overall winner, twice. The dening moments he says, came
down to the last 15% of each race. Those who have run the Leadville will recognize the mind and body
mastery such a race may build, and that the preparatory journey for such an event
is as important as the race itself.
Duncan says he has been absolutely blown away by my testing and development process with UltrAspire.
Most critical to the development process has been the constant communication and the noticeable
commitment to excellenceI certainly know that UltrAspire is committed to making the best hydration
products on the market.
His goals for 2012 include competing strongly in both the Western States 100 and the UTMB. He says: I
have yet to compete in each event but will look to make huge gains in tness. He intends to use the
Isomeric hand-held bottle and the Surge pack in his quest to reach his goals in these upcoming events.
Duncan thrives on repetition and is known for listening to the same song on repeat for days on end. He also
loves running the same daily route and has been known to say the same jokes or phrases until everyone is
completely tired of hearing them. His love of repetition seems to mirror his undaunted tenacity.
Luke loves snow, running and ultra-physical challenges. In 2011, He
was third at the US Ski Mountaineering Championships; 1st at Wasatch
Powderkeg, and 1st at the Menan Butte Challenge. Another amazing
year followed in 2010 including: a 3rd place nish at the Pocatello 50K,
1st Wasatch Steeplechase, 3rd at the Wasatch Speedgoat, 1st Vaquero
Loco 50K, 13th overall Wasatch 100--sub 24 hours, and a record ascent
descent of Idahos highest peak, Mount Borah.
Of his involvement with UltrAspire, he says: As an athlete it is incredible to see an idea turn into a
product. And, the best part is the products always turn out better in real life than I imagine! The
aspect of this process he enjoys most is, without a doubt, the direct relationship of the athletes
with product development.
This year, Luke hopes to revisit the Pocatello 50, Hardrock 100, UTMB, and Wasatch 100 and
Other adventure runs in the Tetons, Wind River Range, Zion, and the Frank Church Wilderness
of Idaho.
Luke has a nearly unquenchable appetite for Wendys Single Hamburgers with fries, of course!
