Diagram 8 FINISHING THE QUILT Step 1. If you decide to mark your quilt top with a quilting design, do it now. Place the backing on a table or floor, right side down and tape to secure. Layer batting on top of the backing. Place the quilt on top of the batting, right side facing up. Pin and baste together if youre going to hand quilt. Pin together if youre going to machine quilt. Quilt as desired. Our sample was quilted in the ditch around each unit of the blocks creating a grid effect. Remove pins or basting. Trim the batting and backing even with the quilt top. Step 2. BINDING: Press the four 2 blue strips in half, lengthwise, wrong sides together. Place a strip on the right side of the quilt top, aligning raw edges and with at least a 1 tail of the binding extending beyond the quilt. Sew together using a seam. We used a walking foot to sew the binding on. Leave the binding longer than the quilt on both ends. See Diagram 9. Fold binding back over the stitching and press. Trim binding even with the quilt. See Diagram 9a. Repeat for opposite side.

BABY BLOCKS QUILT Attach the remaining two side bindings in the same manner having the binding extend past the ends by at least 1. After you press the binding back over the stitching trim it even with the first two attached bindings. See Diagram 10.

Diagram 10 Fold the first two attached bindings to the back first and appliqu stitch to the backing fabric. Repeat with the remaining two side bindings. Note: Always fold back the first two attached bindings first. This prevents from having a raw edge showing on the end.
