The systems in CL1 are thin clients. This page describes how to use pendrives in CL1. Users can remotely login into any system in the common labs by using ssh. For users accessing the common labs or department resources from outside IISc network use:
ssh ssh username@claccess.csa.iisc.ernet.in or username@144.16.67.22

Upon password prompt please type in your account password. To access the Internet from IISc network you need to set proxy in your browser. This page (http://streams.iisc.ernet.in/proxy-settings.html) describes the procedure to set proxy. Note that you need a username and password (dierent from your CSA username) for using the authenticated proxy (proxy.iisc.ernet.in:3128). You can get a proxy username and password for yourself from SERC by lling up the form at http://nitss.serc.iisc.ernet.in/?page_id=100. You may also use noauthproxy.serc.iisc.ernet.in:3128 (slightly slower speed). If there are any issues please feel free to contact student admins by mailing to studadm@csa.iisc.ernet.in

Using Laptops in Common Labs

You can use your own laptops to access IISc network. You may use the LAN cables provided for that purpose in CL1 or LITEC. You can use DHCP to get an ip address on the LAN. You may also use WLAN, but for that you have to get an account from SERC: http://nitss.serc.iisc.ernet.in/?page_id=82. To install softwares in linux from IISc web repository, follow the instructions in the following page: Using IISc web repo

CSA Mails
All CSA students are provided with an email account which will be username@csa.iisc.ernet.in. This username is same as your login username. You can access your mail from the site https://clmail.csa.iisc.ernet.in The maximum size of the Mailbox which includes all your mail folders is 1GB. If the Mailbox exceeds the quota, your mail account will be blocked. You can go to the OPTIONS tab in squirrelmail (the webmail interface for squirrelmail) and specify your custom mail lters/forwards. Also, you can change your clmail password here (this will also change your common lab login password) To access your mails using desktop clients you may follow the instructions here Clmail Settings for Desktop Mail Clients You can use procmail for ltering mails based on your requirements. Follow the instructions in this page to see how to use procmail. Using Procmail for mail ltering

You can also add lters to your mails and make some specic mails go to some specic folders in squirrelmail itself. (This works only when you login into squirrelmail and hence increases your login time) For example, you can create a folder Groupmail (Folders-Create Folder in squirrelmail) and create a lter (Options- Message FilterNew) and lter the studentsall mails to that folder by putting "studentsall" in the 'To address' eld of the lter.

CSA Webpage
Students can create personal web pages within the CSA domain. How to create your home page:

1.ssh clweb 2. If the directory /local/system/web/your-user-id does not exist, write to studadm@csa. If you want your photo to link to your webpage, contact the www@csa.
