Jonas era um profeta de Deus.

Deus lhe disse para ir cidade de Nneve e advertir os seus habitantes que, por causa da grande impiedade que ali reinava, a cidade seria destruda em 40 dias.
Jonah was a prophet of God. God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and warn the people that because of their great wickedness, within 40 days their city was going to be destroyed.

De incio Jonas nem quis obedecer e tentou fugir de Deus. O Senhor, porm, fez soprar um forte vento sobre o mar, e caiu uma tempestade to violenta que o barco ameaava arrebentar-se. Todos os marinheiros ficaram com medo!
At first, Jonah did not want to obey and so ran away from God. God sent a strong wind and a terrible storm. The storm shook the boat back and forth and the sailors were terrified!

Jonas lhes disse, Peguem-me e joguem-me ao mar, e ele se acalmar."

Jonah told the sailors, Throw me into the sea and the storm will stop.

Os marinheiros levantaram a Jonas, e o lanaram ao mar; e cessou o mar da sua fria.

The sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the sea. Immediately, the sea became calm.

Deus fez com que um grande peixe engolisse Jonas.

God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah.

Jonas ficou dentro do peixe trs dias e trs noites. Ele orou e pediu perdo a Deus.
Jonah was in the fish for three days. He prayed and asked God to forgive him.

Deus deu ordens ao peixe, e ele vomitou Jonas em terra firme. Pela segunda vez Deus disse ao Jonas, "Vai grande cidade de Nneve, e lhe proclama a mensagem que eu te ordeno."

God told the fish to spit Jonah out on dry land. Then God told Jonah, Go to the city of Nineveh and give them the message that I told you to give them.

Jonas obedeceu e foi a Nneve. Ao ouvir as palavras de Jonas, o povo de Nneve creu em Deus. Eles se arrependeram e Deus lhes perdoou.
Jonah obeyed and went to Nineveh. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonahs message, they believed Gods Words. They repented and God forgave them.
