I. Introduction: 1. Attention Getter Communication Studies is in the School of the Creative Arts and Industries. Sounds a lot more magical dont it? As I walk past cobbled streets among a city built on 7 hills, everyone speaks different and drives on the left half the time I cant even really understand them, even though its English. 2. Purpose and Topic My topic for today will be the course 131P, New Media, You Media. 3. Preview (a) Description of Experience While studying abroad, I was able to improve upon my Photoshop and Visual Communication skills by using creative practice skills to complete visual aids for music festival. (b) Theoretical Explanation Integrating symbols with communication result in strong visually communicative messages that are so prevalent within this emerging market. (c) Learning That your audience and whom you speak to is important. In addition, all learning within communication can tie into each other. That is the beauty of this department. II. Body: 1) Description of Experience The course I took last semester was called Visual Communication. It took the place of New Media, You Media and was taught dually by two professors, one of theory and one of technicalities. Our main assignment for the course was to develop a flyer for a music festival of some sort that would tie to a specific target audience. We had to develop a brand, music line-ups, sell a pitch, present, as well as work do the work. (2) Theoretical Explanation (a) Visual Communication must relate to all of your target audience/segments (needs, wants, desires). (b)A Lifestyle Strategy is a type of association strategy that uses situations and symbols of lifestyles that the target audience can identify with or

(b) When you divide people into audiences you would see what makes it meaningful to them and the subcultures they may subscribe to. For example, 1824.University Students have pride in where they go to school, so school sweatshirts may be seen more on campus. But for highschoolers is it the same? Do they want to more identify or subscribe to what group they belong to? (c) Learning occurs not only inside the classroom, but truly does connect across borders. Just like different neurons in your brain sending synapses, you would be surprised as to how much you know and how much you would be able to achieve. III. Conclusion: 1. Summary (a) Description of Experience Developing posters and a presentation from the scratch to the finish in a Visual Communication course. (b) Theoretical Explanation Integrating symbols with communication result in strong visually communicative messages that are effective and popular. (c) Learning That your audience and whom you speak to is important. 2. Final Thought As we all embark after university, we should truly embrace what we study. Communication Studies is flexible and thorough art to study. It is what you have made of it. Personally, it has allowed me to reach avenues within the academic realm that many other departments do not offer. Through presentation, research, group work, and working with technical programs that are deemed increasingly useful. Those programs include Adobe programs as well as miscellaneous media editing such as Imovie or Final Cut, give me an edge and experience.
