THEME 1

Topic
Malaria

Target Group

INTRODUCTION
Malaria is a tropical disease spread by night-biting mosquitoes. When a mosquito infected with malaria parasites (plasmodia) bites you, it injects the parasites into your body. It only takes a single mosquito bite for you to become infected. Symptoms can develop as quickly as eight days after being bitten. However, in some cases the parasites can stay inactive in the body and symptoms may not develop for up to a year. Any type of malaria is dangerous but malaria caused by the falciparum parasite is the most serious. It can develop very rapidly and lead to severe illness and death.

DEFINITION
An infectious disease characterized by cycles of chills, fever, and sweating, caused by a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium in red blood cells, which is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female anopheles mosquito.

ATIOLOGY
Malaria is caused by obligate intracellular protozoan parasites of the genus "Plasmodium". The four species of human malarial parasites are :1234Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium ovale.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS STUDY

Malaria [muh-LARE-ee-uh] is a long-lasting disease of the blood. It is transmitted to people by mosquitoes infected with the malaria parasite. The malaria parasite attacks the blood and causes recurring chills, fever, and sometimes jaundice and anemia. Malaria is very common throughout the world. The main risk is to persons travelling to tropical and subtropical countries where malaria is a problem, no vaccine against malaria is available. Travellers can protect themselves by using anti-mosquito measures and by taking drugs to prevent malaria.

So above discussion indicates that Malaria is a very serious disease. This study will give a serious look on malaria.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The student should be able to: 1. identify the infectious form of this parasite.

3. identify the most common means of transmission of this disease. Know the most common cause of malaria. 4. identify a patient with this disease based on clinical manifestations. There are other diseases with fever that come and go. Knowing the length, severity, and time period between fevers would be very helpful. 5. identify the current prevention strategies.

SAMPLE SIZE
38 obese persons (females- 26, male- 12 )

TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES USED

For collecting information 1. Questioners 2. Education material used for project. For imparting education Lecture method

METHODOLOGY
For conducting this study researcher has choosen Kumaspur village which is near Sonepat citys industrial area . SURVEY 1. For collecting the necessary baseline information or data, a survey will be conducted with a sample of 38 peoples, who will be related randomly. 2. Survey will be conducted with the help of questionnaire and regarding their dietary habits and general awareness. 3. Education the sample group regarding general information with the help of lecture.
