Name of the participant:Daman-e-Zehra

Islamabad Model College for Girls, Street # 25, F-6/2, Islamabad. Dated: October 20th 2010 House No.323 E-Block, Gulshan Ravi, Lahore. My Dear Friend Komal! Assalam-o-Alikum! I hope you will be quite hale and hearty. In your last letter you told me that you have to write an essay on the topic of peace and you asked of my help and guidance. My sweet heart! I am always here to help you. Now I am going to tell you about peace and the role you and I can play for maintaining it in our society, our country and in the world as well. Peace means the freedom from war or disorder in the society. Since the beginning of history, peace is considered to be a blessing and war, a scourge. Without peace, a nation can never make any progress. How many beautiful cities with valuable works of arts and science have been ruined and depopulated, how many millions of innocent souls have been killed, how many resourceful

countries have been impoverished in the course of the great war. War creates an atmosphere of doubt, fear and suspicion which leads to a race of armaments and an endless vicious circle which is recurring in its nature and thus seems to break no where. In August, 1945 two bombs dropped on the two cities of Hiroshima and Negasaki, of Japan performed their monstrous destruction. This opened the eyes of the whole world. The wise men counted that the human civilization would be ruined to the bit, if a war ever takes place.

Dear Komal! Peace is the religion of the universe, therefore, it should be the religion of man too, so that in the words of Jesus Christ, the will of the Lord may be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven. When God created Heaven and the Earth, he so ordered things that each part might perform its function peacefully, without clashing with any other part so the universe is following this path of peace which is known in science as the Law of Nature. In a similar vein, the Quran tells us that The sun is not allowed to overtake the moon, nor does the night out pace the day, Each in its own orbit runs.

A philosopher once said. The key to peace is tolerance. So far as Islam is concerned, it is an entirely tolerant religion. Islam desires peace to prevail in the world. The Quran calls the way of Islam the path of peace. If a tolerant attitude is lacking in the people, the state of peace can never prevail in the society. In order to preserve the peace established by nature from disruption, two important injunctions have been laid down by Islam. One at the Individual level, stresses the exercise of patience, and the other, at the social level, forbids taking the offensive. The Quran Says The patient man is the helper of God. World peace can only be attained if the religion of Allah that came to us through the Holy prophet (PBUH) is enforced in the world. Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Thus speaks the Holy Quran, the word of God. To make international peace more secure, these three factors must persist spiritual, moral and intellectual. The Roman empire, throughout the history of the western world, remained a symbol of spiritual unity. The moral roots of modern attempts to find a stable foundation for international peace must be sought in the increased human-ness and civilized conduct. Similar to the great

political and social reforms of 19th and 20th centuries and liberalism which all postulate respect for promotion of human welfare. The intellectual factor underlying this development is to be found in the rise of the commercial and scientific spirit. To establish international peace, Disarmament, collective security, Judicial Agencies, Peaceful changes and Diplomacy can be employed. Disarmament means the reduction or elimination of certain or all armaments for the purpose of stopping the armament race. Disarmament is the symptom of disappearance of political tension which by itself gives assurance for the preservation of peace. The United Nations Organization can also prove to be an effective instrument of peace, if certain changes are made in its working. The relative position of this organization can be increased by modifying the veto so that the security council can reach decisions rapidly areas and countries of the world having even smaller populations should be equally represented in the UN and their problems should be tackled efficiently by other member countries. Complete peace and harmony in the world can only be achieved after resolving Kashmir, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Palestines disputes.

In a system of collective security, security is the concern of all nations which will take care collectively of the security of each of them as though their own security were at stake. It is a fact that if one nation wants something from the other nation who is not willing to concede, first nation will try to get it by force. Had there been a method acceptable to both the nations war could have been avoided. Permanent court of arbitration was established by the Hague convention for the pacific settlement of international disputes of 1899 and 1907. Komal Dear! As we all know that none can deny the importance of media, therefore, there should be an international ban on newspaper calumny and abuse of other countries and religious personalities. understanding Everything must be that tends towards mutual be

encouraged,

tolerance

should

inculcated, at all times nations should discuss calmly the claims of other countries. Always remember this that diplomacy has always been the chief instrument in preserving international peace. It ensures the protection and promotion of vital interests of the negotiating

parties. Our Quaid Muhammad Ali Jinnah stressing upon the importance of peace once said our object should be peace within and peace without. We want to live peacefully and cordial and friendly relations with our immediate neighbors and with the world at large. In the first place at national level, there must be created a temper of peace among the people. They should be convinced that in spite of serious differences, they should approach their problems with the basic temper of peace and thus have not only resolved them, but produced, at the same time, abiding understanding and friendship. In order to produce this temper of peace among the people, there must be a regular campaign of educating masses in such a manner as to inculcate in them the will to peace. Even at school level, children should be taught to be peaceful and raise their demands in a mannered way. Public should be demonstrated that by holding strikes and destroying the governments property, they can have nothing but will harm their own brethren. For this purpose, we can spread the message of Sufis and saints, and the men of God, who always tried to inculcate love and fellowship among the people of the world.

Komal Dear! always remember this thing that you and I can never set examples for others or educate the masses until & unless, we ourselves perform such kind of deeds. Every citizen of Pakistan should abide by the countrys rules and regulations and follow the laws. When everyone performs his / her duty honestly, there would be peace everywhere. That is why the Quran enjoins: And do not corrupt the land after is has been set in order as one of the ways to keep humanity on the path of peace is to get rid of corruption. I think that you would understand properly the meaning and the significance of peace on reading this letter. Therefore, let us all strive then to establish peace in the world for that is the bedrock on which all human progress rests. I pray to God that May he bestow us with the courage, and ability to fulfill our responsibilities and spread peace everywhere in our society. Pay my compliments to your parents and love to younger.

Yours Sincerely,

Daman-e-Zahra
