Constituency Boundary Review changes the proposals for Ashton upon Mersey
Success for councillors campaign
The first proposals of the Boundary Commission for Englands (BCE) review of Parliamentary Constituencies moved Ashton upon Mersey Ward into the Stretford and Urmston Constituency, splitting it from all of the other Sale area Wards completely. Following the campaign to get the Ward put back into the Altrincham & Sale West Constituency, the latest version of the Boundary Review has done just that. The Ashton councillors, John Lamb, Brian Rigby and Mike Whetton all submitted representations as did local Conservative members and many local residents which the Boundary Commission has now heeded. Ashton upon Mersey Ward is now in a revised Altrincham and Sale West Constituency along with Bucklow St Martins Ward. Independent analysis of the national and regional proposals suggests that the latest scheme is good news for the Conservative Party, improving the number of seats which theoretically would elect a Conservative MP. These latest proposals are now open for consultation with a deadline of 10th December for any submissions. Experts say that these latest proposals are unlikely to be altered very much now they may swap a ward here or there, or change a constituency name. Any suggestions for more substantial changes to boundaries would have to be very credible proposals indeed. Following this next consultation, the BCEs final report goes (ironically) to the Deputy Prime Minister by October 2013 and he must put the proposals to Parliament. It is believed that even if they are then voted down, as has been suggested, they will form the basis of a review after 2015.
It is important now for people in favour of Ashton upon Mersey being within the Altrincham and Sale West Constituency to submit comments agreeing with these latest proposals and, where appropriate, to thank the BCE for taking notice of the previous comments. This can be done before 10th December using the following means:

Ashton Councillors raise money for Mayors charities.

The three councillors for Ashton upon Mersey have
once again been involved in social action to raise money for local causes. Councillors John Lamb, Brian Rigby and Mike Whetton organised another Chinese Banquet in support of the Mayor of Traffords charities. The event, held at the Gonbay Cantonese restaurant in Altrincham was a sell out with just over one hundred people attending including the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Patricia Young and her Consort, Councillor Michael Young. A huge raffle of donated prizes, including a luxury food hamper, raised hundreds of pounds towards the event total of 1,945.00. These funds will benefit the Mayors charities which are supporting the development of a new Young Oncology Unit at the Christie, a cancer centre for young people, along with Genie Networks based at Altrincham General Hospital which supports the deaf and hard of hearing. Councillor Mike Whetton said This is our third year of running such an event and it is the most successful yet. It is designed to cross political boundaries and brings everyone together raising money for worthy local causes. In three years we have raised over 5,000 which benefits local good causes.

For the event the Gonbay manager, Ming, created a five course Chinese Banquet menu which featured several of the restaurants most popular Email northwest@bcommengland.x.gsi.gov.uk dishes including Aromatic Crispy Duck and Sizzling Fillet Steak Cantonese-style.
