EduGuide User Experience

User Testing Bulletin - November 26, 2012
Again, thank you to everyone who has signed up to be a user tester for EduGuide, and especially to those of you who have submitted feedback on our features. It might not always show, but your comments and emails are already making a huge difference in our development process. I hope that you have enjoyed testing out our website as much as Ive enjoyed reading your input. Moving forward, Im going to switch everyone to a new tool called Trello. Trello presents information in the form of boards and cards, and those cards can be easily assigned to members. After some testing, Ive found that this tool will be potentially faster than the team I started on EduGuide. A lot of your testing will still occur inside the EduGuide User Testing team, but most of my communication will come from the Trello board itself. You will probably have already gotten an invite to join the Trello board by the time youve read this message, but in case you dont here is a link you can use to request to join the board.

Submitting Feedback
Another thing which is changing is the way that I will be asking you to send your feedback. Instead of relying on the board inside the team, Im going to ask you to respond either via the email address of web@eduguide.org or directly back to a card on the board. Im setting up User Forums within the boards inside Trello where you can post general feedback, or when you complete a testing exercise which was assigned to you via a card, you will be asked to respond directly back to that same card.

Testing Exercises
I had been trying to use the goals and paths inside the team to assign testing exercises, but in the future you will be sent the same instructions via cards on the Trello cards. Everyone will be able to interact with each other as they submit their feedback, too.

Now when you adopt a goal, you can ask for a little help from your friends
Goals became a little more social over the last week as we introduced the concept of Goal Advisors to the site. EduGuide members can now ask their friends, team mates, coaches, mentors, or even non-members to help them out with a goal theyve adopted. As you adopt a goal, you will see a section on the page labeled Goal Advisors. Next, click on the link labeled Add Advisors. A screen will open up which will allow you to select the friends who you would like to help you with the goal you are adopting. Click Add, and then click Save. When you are returned to the Goal Adoption screen, you will see that the friends that you selected are now listed underneath the Goal Advisors header. Click Save Goal to continue on to the Goal detail page where you will see a finalized list of your goal advisors. Goal Advisors will be listed as pending until they respond to your request. People who you invite via email will not be listed as pending until theyve started an account in response to your request. Complete Exercises 1-3 by visiting the Goal Board on Trello

Test "Responding via Email"

Follow the steps below during your test of the "Reply via email" feature. After you're finished, post your comments or any issues you encountered inside this card. 1 2 Post a new message on the team "EduGuide User Experience Testing Lab," located here [EGUX Team](http://www.eduguide.org/teams/board/199). Watch for someone to respond to it.

3 4 5 When you open the notification for the person's response, click "Reply," and then enter your new message in the space above the body of the original message. Click "Send." Look at the board inside the team to check for the following: that your message appears on the board correctly, and that no additional text was included in the board post. This is a very broad change to the board feature, so as you test other parts of the website please remember to respond via email as often as possible so that we can work out any potential bugs. Complete these steps and then post your response here
