Narrative Report

We started our on-the-job training on November 21, 2011, about a week after the start of classes for the second semester. We went to IT 302 and there we met Sir Jerico Aguinaldo, the online facilitator and Sir Jeffrey Allan Licardo, the software support engineer, with the former instructing us how to perform a dual-boot on the computer units. Later that day, we went to Sir Jovans office for a meeting and told us of things to remember. Afterwards, each of us was assigned to a laboratory at the IT building; I was assigned to IT 308. After that, we were tasked to list the serial numbers of the peripherals at our assigned labs. The next day, we distributed about five printers to different departments and set it up. The following day, we met Sir Marc Vincent Santos, the computer lab technician. We were told that he used to be in charge of the OJTs but was transferred to Sir Jovan due to a conflict. This was later transferred to Sir Ed Mark Aguilar, who was the replacement of Sir Marc upon the latters resignation.

A usual day at the Data Center consisted of assisting people who are seeking Wi-Fi access as well as keeping an eye on the laboratories and seeing that the professors have signed the ITs lab faculty attendance sheet. After the professors are done with the laboratories, we perform a clearing to check if there are any PCs left open or any other things that might seem unusual as well as seeing if anyone left their possessions inside the lab. Sometimes, Sir Jerico would ask one of the OJTs to go with him at the VSAT classroom located at IT 407 to assist him in whatever needs to be done. During the evening shift, we would go around to perform a head count to check if there are any missing peripherals inside the laboratories, provided that nobody was using the laboratories at that time. And before going home, we check the laboratories once more to make sure that the circuit breakers are turned off along with the air conditioners (although the security guards are the ones handling them), and that the doors are closed properly.

Sometimes, the keys to the laboratories are given to the security guards in case the IT staff wouldnt be on hand to assist the faculty who would use the laboratories in the evening. This is usually done on Mondays since the IT staff (excluding Sir Jovan) would go home at around 5 p.m., and occasionally during Saturdays in the event Sir Jerico wouldnt be available the next day (Sunday). The keys are also lent to the Chartered Hands if needed.

Our supervisors also performed some lectures. Sir Marc was the first one to do so, lecturing about file sharing, remote desktop, and some basic Run commands. A follow-up lecture was supposed to take place but it did not materialize since Sir Marc had left soon after. There were two more lectures, which were held by Sir Jeff and Sir Jerico, discussing how Windows Server 2003 works and other things related to networking. This was done as a review for the assessment and interview at the AMA Head Office that was conducted by Sir Andrew Caday, which took place on March 27, 2012.
