The winning bartenders for each of the qualifying rounds around the world will be allowed to modify the cocktail recipe that led to their qualication during their own countrys contest, or change it entirely. The deadline for ling the nal recipe with the organization will be two weeks before the world nals (4/24/13) to be held on (4/08/13.) After that date, no further modications of any kind will be allowed.

Regarding the ingredients: A cocktail may not contain more than six (6) ingredients. These include: fruit juices, syrups, bitters or droppers. Solid elements for the purpose of garnishing are NOT considered ingredients. It is possible to spray tropical essences if the competitor species that they will be used as a garnish rather than as an ingredient.

All recipes must contain at least 30ml (1 oz.) of one of the Diplomtico rums (Aejo, Reserva Exclusiva, Ambassador or Blanco.) No other types of rum will be accepted in the competition. The ingredients can be served using standard measuring tools or they can be free poured.

Regarding the recipe The recipes used can either be original creations by the participants or improvements upon established recipes. All recipes must be expressed using specic measurements, units of capacity or drops. Other ingredients, such as fruits and other additions, must be specically stipulated in the same fashion. For example, simply saying Lemon Juice is not acceptable.

Regarding the cocktails and their preparation All cocktails must be prepared in front of, and in plain view, of the judges. Mixing must be done with a cocktail shaker, a bar spoon or a blender. The only supplies provided by the organization, apart from the Diplomtico rums themselves, will be ice in both block and crushed form. All glasses or drink containers must be provided by the participant. Each competitor will be required to prepare four (4) identical drinks for the jury. Competitors will have a maximum of ve minutes to complete their cocktails. Before that they will be allowed an additional ve-minute setup time at the bar and a table will be available for them to work on decoration only while they are next in line to perform at the bar. Participants that use inadequate or non-hygienic techniques will be immediately disqualied and they will be withdrawn from the competition without being evaluated by the jury.

Regarding garnishes All garnishes must be edible and be held in place by toothpicks, skewers or straws.

Fruits for garnishing may be prepared ahead of time as long as that preparation takes place at the site of the competition. The garnishes must be placed during the 5-minute period allowed for cocktail preparation, NOT during the previous 5-minute setup time.

Regarding the names of the cocktails Competitors are not allowed to present cocktails whose names are considered vulgar, sexually offensive, or featuring words associated with narcotics or other intoxicating substances. Likewise it is not allowed for cocktails to have names that admit or incite the humiliation of people, organizations or groups of people exhibiting political, ethnic or religious tendencies, among others. Regarding conduct All competitors who use inappropriate, rude or vulgar language to address the public, the judges, organizers, aides, colleagues and/or other competitors, will be disqualied. Regarding Scoring The decision of the judges is their very own and it may not be appealed. The organization is within its rights to select the jury or make changes to the same before or even during the competition (if that became necessary.) The judges will evaluate each presentation based on three sets of criteria: Technique and Presentation: setup, the precision of the bartenders work, the uniformity of the cocktails in the glasses, uncorking, simplicity of the cocktail, manners. Garnishing and Appearance of the Cocktail: tidiness, chilling of the glass, general appearance, color, decorative elements. Sensorial Aspects: aromas, taste, look, balance. Additionally, during the world nal, each bartender will be allowed to speak about his or her cocktail as it is being prepared. Based on this, the judges will also score, under the Technique and Presentation set of criteria, the uidity of the bartenders speech, the handling of information regarding the ingredients being utilized and the rationale for their use, stage presence, etc. Each judge will award a participant a score ranging from 1 to 10 for each set of criteria, with 10 being the highest score. The scores for all 3 set of criteria will

in turn be averaged for each judge, and the scores of all three judges will then be averaged to achieve a nal score for each contestant. 100% of the result will depend upon the scores awarded by the panel of judges selected by Diplomtico in accordance with the standards established for the competition. During the world nal the company will announce additional prizes to be awarded based exclusively on the number of likes collected on Facebook or other social media sites. Regarding responsibilities The competitors are warned that the materials, ingredients, apparel, tools and other equipment they bring with them must be picked up and removed by the participants themselves right after their performance. While the members of the jury debate over and evaluate a cocktail, the bartender who created said cocktail must clean and order the bar and its surrounding areas so it is ready for use by the following contestant. Bartenders ingesting alcoholic beverages before or during the course of the contest will be eliminated. Competitors must keep themselves under control at all times and maintain a rational and peaceful demeanor. Any participant who exhibits the opposite behavior or who becomes aggressive towards the other competitors will be disqualied and evicted from both the event and the facilities.
