minimizing our environmental impact, making a positive contribution in the communities in which we so business and providing a great environment for our employees. Starbucks is the largest buyer of Certified Fair Trade Coffee in North America at 10% of the global market. Since launching its FTC coffee line in 2000, Starbucks has made a significant contribution to family farmers through their rapidly growing FTC coffee volume. By offering FTC coffee in thousands of stores, Starbucks has also given the FTC label greater visibility, helping to raise consumer awareness in the process.

Reducing the environmental impact of our cups depends on the success of two interrelated efforts: developing recyclable cup solutions and dramatically increasing our customers use of reusable cups. We offer a 10-cent discount to encourage customers to use their own reusable mugs or tumblers for their beverages. Customers staying in a store can also request that their beverages be served in a ceramic mug where available. Every paper cup saved helps keep our forests intact.
Ethos, a brand of bottled water acquired by Starbucks in 2005, is sold at locations throughout North America and helps children get clean water all over the globe. A portion of each bottle sold is used to fund clean water projects in under-developed areas. Sales of Ethos water have raised over $6,200,000 for clean water efforts. The Starbucks Foundation, which was formed in 1977, provides grants to youth programs and community development projects. Starbucks has partnered with many grant organizations providing funds for youth action. In 2010 Starbucks exceeded its youth action goal, involving a total of 53,736 youth by the end of the year. The Starbucks Youth Action Grants provided 100 grants in 2010 giving a total of $2.6 million worldwide. In addition, in April 2011, Starbucks became involved in Global Month of Service. Starbucks formed over 1400 community service projects, using 60,000 volunteers from 30 countries on 4 continents. 156,000 hours of community service were counted after 30

days. The service efforts provided $3.3 million of fiscal value.
