Art AS Coursework Neglect and Decay

Decayed apple sculpture

Art AS coursework Neglect and Decay. - At the beginning of this project we have decided to research and experiment with fruits from fresh to decay. I have taken photos of a banana and an apple from day 1 to 10 to show the process of decaying fruits. From these images I have decided to draw them out by using four different media; pencil, Colour pencil, Acrylic and Biro. - I have then created a sculpture of a decayed apple showing its features using cardboard painted over with acrylic paint mixed with sand for a rougher surface. I have also decided to relate the topic to a humans anatomy. Again, I have used three different materials to draw these; coloured pencils, coloured felt tip pens and a mixture of felt tip with pencil.

- For this project, each of the students in our class had to choose our own topic related to Neglect and Decay. I have chosen series of flowers from fresh to decay. - I have started my research by experimenting with Cath Kidstons flowers. This involves ink printing, painting and collecting patterned fabrics to create a flower. - I have planned my final design by painting four flowers in a different way on small canvases. -I found an image of Laura Ashleys work and thought I could use its structure to my final design. - Here is my final design painted in acrylic paint with the last flower combined with crumpled newspaper and splat effects using red spray paint.

Art AS Exam Sky High

Van Gogh three paintings mixed together drawn out using Oil Pastels

William Turner

After our art coursework has been completed, we have started our exam. We have been given a variety of questions to choose from and Ive chosen the topic Sky high. I have started researching William turners work and decided to experiment with these by repainting three of his work and combined it together for my title page. I have found one of his paintings and focused on the waves I have repainted this using acrylic paint. I have moved on to Van Gogh. I took pictures of clouds and experimented with them by drawing on the sky using Van Goghs clouds swirls

Morning - Acrylic

Morning Oil pastels

- My experiment with Van Goghs clouds carried on and decided to create these using three different materials; Strings, Magazine paper and Cardboard attached on to pages showing the different time of the day; morning, afternoon and night. - I have painted each of these on to separate pages using Acrylic and Oil pastels.

Night - Acrylic

I have observed the surrounding by capturing my own images of the sky and experimented with it by using different types of media; painting using acrylic, oil pastels and manipulated using GIMP (editing software). I have also researched different types of famous artists related to my topic and used their painting techniques and style towards my final design. These artists are Van Gogh, William Turner and Claude Monet. They are one of my favourite artists that inspired me to produce a unique and creative design e.g. Van Gogh The swirly clouds and his bold colour combinations, William Turners very detailed paintings and Claude Monets painting technique; he strokes the paint rather than blending it all together.

Art AS Exam - Final Piece

My Final designs structure is inspired by the Chinese calendar. I decided to place the sun and the moon on the middle, the city skyline and the sky inside the globe which is then surrounded by water that shows the reflection of the sky and the building lights. I have transformed Van Goghs cloud by using three different materials; cardboard, magazine and string. I have repainted one of his artwork of the night sky. As he usually have buildings on his work, I thought I could include a skyline of the famous places around the world; Paris, New York, Italy etc. I have used Claude Monets style of painting throughout; the clouds and its reflection on the water and lastly William Turners observation of water movements and the detailed painting of the sun and moon.

In this year, we have been given the chance to choose our own topic. I have chosen Architectural designs. This project is currently in progress which I have stared by researching ancient buildings and pillars. I have chosen the Byzantine capital pillar and experimented with its different crown designs by using Oil pastels, sketching, Ink, layered Cardboard and also sculptures using clay.

This is the image of the street where I live. I thought I could show a picture of what it looks like to show how I have developed its designs. I am interested in traditional architecture which I am currently using in most of my projects; Art A2 (Architectural designs) and Extended project. I have decided to start designing modern designs to show my ability in designing buildings and houses in todays world. I have used Google Sketchup to create this design as it enables me to view the house in different angles. During the process of designing this house, I have looked through images of modern houses in Google and found these: This is where I have taken my inspiration from in producing this design.

Here is a closer view of the house showing its front sides and back. The houses in my street are very old and simple, so I decided to design a new house that fits in todays modern designs. For its roof, I have always thought that it should be built in a triangle shape, but in order to keep it modern, I have combined a bigger and a smaller triangle together. I have added a window on it to allow sunlight in the room - The second floor of this house is similar to a conservatory where the family can sit and relax. The masters bedroom and the bathroom will be located in the second floor. Another two smaller bedrooms will be downstairs together with the kitchen and living room.
