FR. ADRIANS CORNER

Its been almost a month since I wrote anything here in my corner. We had our Stewardship Campaign with le ers from the Pastor all through November so I decided to take a back seat. Lets hope and pray that the Stewardship Campaign makes a dierence. We need $5,000 extra a month to make up the shor all in our weekly collec ons. We have a huge Religious Educa on Program to fund. We are passing on the faith to the young and R.E. must be a priority in the life of the parish. Doing good Liturgy takes money music, cantors, instrumentalists, and our Director of Worship. Keeping the lights and air condi oning/hea ng on, bread and wine for the Eucharist, candles, laundry, and owers for the liturgical environment cost a lot. Paying the salaries of our extremely busy sta and keeping a standard of service to the people of the parish takes money. One extra dollar from everyone would make the dierence and two would enable us to pay our bills without anxiety. None of us wants cut-backs but rather we want to go forward and be even be er than we are. But it takes money.yes, money!! And not occasionally but every week! Sorry to be blunt but this is the truth. The rst Sunday of our campaign was wonderful and the response generous, but on week two we were virtually back to where we started. This will not work. Its got to be consistent in order to make a real dierence. We have an excellent Conrma on Class this year. They a end workshops at the Mission once a month and classes on Tuesday evenings at the parish. Saturday before last I cooked for 100 of them at the Mission (I must be crazy!) and there was nothing le over! I wanted our young people to experience the hospitality of our community and to understand that service is central to the vision presented by Jesus in the Gospel. What be er way than to cook a meal! Anyhow, before I get all carried away theologically let me say that I simply loved cooking for the Conrma on Class, the teachers and volunteers who accompany them and I consider it a great compliment to my culinary skills that there was nothing le and I mean nothingnada! For those interested in such things; I made a beef and hot Italian sausage ragu sauce for penne pasta with spring green salad and crusty bread. Simple, tasty and easy on our very ght budget! The holiday season is upon us and I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Social Concerns Food Drive at the parish. Your kindness and generosity has enabled us to look a er needy folks who experience hardship at this me of year in a par cular way. Soon it will be Advent and we will be preparing for the Incarna on the coming of Our Lord. Advent is all about wai ng and wai ng is something we have a hard me doing in our culture. Wai ng can be anxious or peaceful it can heighten the tension of an cipa on so that when Christmas nally arrives we are burs ng with delight at the promise of God fullled. I hope that your Advent will be not at all anxious or fraught with worry about what gi s to buy, what food to eat, what party to a end, but that instead it will be a me of joyful an cipa on for Jesus. The Franciscan, Murray Bodo, in his lovely book Francis, the Journey and the Dream says of Christmas: At Christmas it was the infant Christ who was born again in human hearts, and it struck St. Francis that God came to earth as a baby so that we would have someone to care for.

Christmas was the dearest of feasts because it meant that God was now one of us. Flesh of our esh and bone of our bone, this child we could approach without fear. We could be silly and uninhibited as we sought to make him laugh. We could be totally ourselves because a child accepts us as we are and screams with delight at our li le performances in his behalf. Wishing you a happy Advent of peaceful wai ng!

RECONCILIATION SERVICES AT SAN LUIS REY PARISH

There are two Reconcilia on Services during Advent at San Luis Rey Parish. Both give the opportunity to go to confession or celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilia on, to give it its correct tle. All sacraments give grace, help from God which enables us to live the Chris an life. Reconcilia on is a sacrament of repair and renewal it oers the grace to be sorry for past wrongs and to strengthen us in our resolve to be more faithful. All Catholics are encouraged to go to confession/ reconcilia on before Christmas. Advent is a period of preparaon for the celebra on of the birth of Christ, which we call the Incarna on, the feast of Christmas. At Christmas we receive Our Lord again as if for the rst me when he became one of us in esh and blood. The Sacrament of Reconcilia on is a wonderful way to welcome Him. In Advent John the Bap st will tell us, Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight! What be er way to prepare and make straight than by confessing our sins, receiving Gods pardon and renewing our faith in Jesus, born again in our hearts this Christmas. MSLRP Reconcilia on Services Times and Dates Friday 14 December 7:00 p.m. Serra Center Saturday 15 December 10:00 a.m. Serra Center Priests from neighboring parishes will join the Franciscan Friars from the Mission/Parish for the Reconcilia on Service and Confession.

Y no sobr nada!
