List below the names of bands/artists that are part of this genre, a brief history of the genre and the type of imagery associated with the genre
Introduction to Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a music genre that consist of a stylised rhythmic that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. It is defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, break dancing and graffiti writing.
Hip Hop as music and culture did not form until the 1970s when block parties became increasingly popular in New York City, particularly with African-American youths living in Bronx. These Block parties used DJs who played popular genres of music and due to the positive response DJs began isolating the percussive breaks of popular songs. This was mainly introduced to New York through
Jamaican Immigrants, as this technique was then common in Jamaican music. The percussive breaks in popular music at that time (funk, disco and soul) were short and DJs began using turntables to extend the break. Hip Hop in its infancy has been described as an outlet and a voice for the excluded youth of low economic areas, as the culture reflected the social, economic and political realities of their lives.
Hip Hop unfortunately is also associated with a lot of drug abuse. This is because the artists in this genre for the most part like (some artist like Eminem are very anti-drugs) to portray themselves as cool gangsters and drugs are part of the gangster culture making drugs apart of Hip Hop. Marijuana is probably the most famous drug associated with Hip Hop. As famous Hip Hop artist like Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa promote it and smoke it on a regular basis.
Break dance is mainly associated with Hip Hop because most Hip Hop artist use Break dancers in their music videos and live performances. This is so they are more visually interesting.

In this interview Yo-Yo talks about her new EP coming out at the end of April and her new single. She also talks about who she collaborated with on the new EP like the famous female rapper Missy Elliot. She also says how long it has been since she last released a big, independent album. She also discusses how performing in the BET Hip Hop awards felt and who were her role models as she was growing up. Also she says while she was growing up how she got into different things but always wanted to be an entertainer. Also she discusses her feelings towards the current state of Hip Hop.
She is asked specific questions like You got a new EP right When does it come out? Who did she collaborate with on the EP? How was performing on the BET Hip Hop awards? When she was growing up what did she want to be? How does she feel about the state of Hip Hop Now? All the questions obtain information that the target audience of the radio broadcast would find interesting. From the interview we learn her thoughts and feelings on many topics that concern her professionally like the current state of Hip Hop and that concern her personally like what she wanted to be when she was growing up. The style of interviewing is very casual and laid back and includes a lot of slang words like yall.
However, recently new stars have risen in Hip Hop from different ethnic origins, such as Jay Sean from India and MIA from Sri Lanka, which suggests Hip Hop, is begging to evolve and change into a more multi-cultural voice. Also imagery is starting to become less aggressive.
Conclusion
To conclude, I will stick to the traditional characteristics of Hip Hop as I have more knowledge on it and it is what most Hip Hop fans like to read about. This means the artist I use in my magazine and my magazine itself will have to conform to associated characteristics of the genre. This means elements of Hip Hop like the style and the bad attitude.
