30, 60, 100, 150 Amp Plugs & Receptacles

FEATURES CONTACTS

APPLETON & KILLARK APPLETON KILLARK

ARKTITE ADVANTAGE
Provides nearly 360 of contact at every insertion, ensuring protection against heat rise and eliminating arcing on critical surfaces. Continuous contact over length and circumference of mated pins provides superior safety and long-term performance. Self Wiping Self-wiping at every insertion to prevent environmental contamination buildup.

APPLETON POWERTITE OR KILLARK VERSAMATE COMPARISON

Only two points of contact means pitting occurs on critical mating surfaces. Spring clip design breaks down from continued product use, resulting in safety hazards, extended downtime and product failure. Contamination can build up easily between pin and sleeve contacts leading to product failures.

Split Pin

CABLE GRIP
Tri-Lock Design Tri-Lock cable grip has 3-piece design that equally distributes gripping power around perimeter of cable. Cord jacket does not get pinched, eliminating potential for damage to both internal conductors and external cable jacket. Appletons 2-piece clam shell design pinches cable and increases potential for damage to both internal conductors and external cable jacket. Killarks 4-piece design provides uneven pressure around cord jacket, pinches smaller cable diameters & increases potential damage to conductors. Cable grip is located outside plug housing, exposing critical hardware to harsh environments. Corroded clamp screws make maintenance impossible. Appleton's protruding screws can snag or scratch when moving equipment. If cable grip breaks off, there is no cable pullout protection. Screws are not captive increasing risk of lost of screws during installation. If screws are lost, no mechanical cable grip and no pullout protection. In event of a ground failure, Appleton units do not have a plastic safety sleeve for back-up ground protection. Increased likelihood of creepage and clearance issues. Killark plastic sleeve is not mechanically held in place. Increased likelihood that liner could fall out during installation. Appleton's multiple gaskets require trial and error sizing to be sure of best t and seal. If too many layers of the Killark "onion" gasket are removed, tight seal around cable is lost and water ingress occurs. No mechanical locking mechanism between cable grip and plug gasket. Appleton plug insulators have protruding ns that increase likelihood of wire fraying and make wire termination difcult. Killark ground terminals are impeded by ground strap, increasing difculty of wire termination. Killark units are shipped without any method of containing screws and preventing them from falling out during transportation.

Ease of Cable grip is located inside plug housing eliminating corrosion Maintenance of vital hardware and making plug maintenance easy. Reduced Snagging Assembly Screws Smooth and contoured design of plug housing eliminates occurrence of cable grip snagging or breaking off. Tri-Lock screws are captive so cable grip cannot come apart during assembly. Prevents critical screws from getting lost during installation.

INTERNAL PLUG SLEEVE INSULATOR

Plastic sleeve between insulator body and housing minimizes Plastic possibility of electrical shock in event of ground failure. Safety Sleeve Increases creepage and clearance protection. Snap-In Design Internal plastic sleeve snaps inside plug sleeve and prevents it from falling out during installation.

PLUG GASKET
Sure Seal Two gasket sizes t entire range of cable diameters reducing Cable Gland risk of improper assembly. Gasket ratchets into tri-lock cable grip to prevent plug from turning or loosening in high vibration areas.

Locking ring

INSULATOR ASSEMBLIES
Terminals Unimpeded, easy-access phase and ground terminals make wire termination quick and easy. Lug screws are secured with tape to prevent them from vibrating loose and falling out during shipping.

Lug Screws

RECEPTACLE COVER
Spring Design Cover Orientation Automatic weatherproof seal every time plug is disengaged. Killark cover must be manually adjusted to provide environmental seal. Cover opens upwards causing blind keyway alignment and increased difculties during plug insertion. Changing orientation of Appleton cover requires extra effort of working with 3 allen head set screws. If Killark cover is damaged, a full Receptacle assembly must be ordered to replace it.

Cover opens downward for easy visibility during plug insertion.

Ease of Field replaceable design allows for new cover to be threaded Replacement on quickly and easily.

2-Piece Plug Design

APPLETON & KILLARK APPLETON KILLARK

ARKTITE ADVANTAGE
Two-piece plug design does not require problematic retaining ring to hold interior assembly in place. Signicantly decreases the time it takes to terminate wire.

APPLETON POWERTITE OR KILLARK VERSAMATE COMPARISON

Problematic retaining ring used to hold insulator body in position is difcult to remove when terminating wire. Very difcult to put back ring in place once wires are terminated. Appleton 2-piece insulator body design increases installation time, increases difculty of cable termination, and introduces risk of losing critical components. Difcult to identify phase and ground locations, increasing likelihood of equipment damage or injury to personnel. Insulator design does not hold lug screws captive. Increased likelihood that screws can accidentally be backed out during wire termination. Appleton grounding design requires ground strap to align with locking screw hole. Greatly increases assembly time required. Killark's multiple screw ground design creates series of weak points where ground can fail.

Assembly-free wire termination design reduces length of time to Wire terminate wires by 50%. Eliminates potential of losing critical Termination components. Phase Marker Yellow phase and ground marker make phase and ground locations easily identiable.

Captive Lug Lug screws are captive due to design of insulator body, Screws eliminating lost contact lugs during termination process.

Grounding Method

Integral grounding components provide superior reliability and do not interfere with wire termination process.

RECEPTACLE COVER
Spring Design Automatic weatherproof seal when plug is removed. Wing nuts are used for additional environmental protection to keep cover closed while not in use. Some Appleton designs do not provide automatic weatherproof seal. No seal provided without manually locking cover closed using wing nuts. If wing nuts are damaged, receptacles have no environmental protection. Killark and Appleton covers are permanently attached to receptacle housing. If cover is damaged, new receptacle is required for replacement.

Ease of Cover threads on to receptacle for easy replacement in the eld. Replacement

CABLE GRIP
Set Screw Locking screw uses tension to hold cable grip in place and does not damage threads on handle body. 4 piece assembly increases ease of installation and reduces opportunity for losing components. Appleton locking screw bottoms out on handle body threads. Results in damaged threads and makes cable grip replacement impossible. Killark's 8 piece assembly makes installation more difcult and increases risk of losing critical components.
