HERITAGE BADGE FOR UNIFORMED GROUPS

AN INFORMATION GUIDE FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

1 WHAT IS THE HERITAGE BADGE?

The Heritage Badge is a badge of distinction. It is awarded to those


who have the passion, commitment and drive to learn about, research
and share their knowledge of matters related to Singapore's history,
culture and beliefs.

The badge is awarded by the National Heritage Board to deserving


students who have completed a heritage project specified by the
Board.

2 WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE BADGE?

It is for secondary school members from any uniformed group.

3 WHAT MUST I DO TO GET THE BADGE?

All you have to do is to complete any one of the projects listed by the
National Heritage Board within a period of three months. The badge is
awarded only if the projects meet the following criteria:
a) level of commitment, ie, see through the project right from the
beginning till the end
b) Professionalism of project
c) Ability to show that he or she has learnt and benefited from the
project.
In this instance, students may be asked to give a talk or produce a
scrap book, depending on the project chosen.

4 PROJECTS

a) Designing a Heritage Trail


b) Guiding in NHB Museums
c) Undertaking a Simple Research Project
d) Designing an Information Booklet on Monuments in Singapore
e) Tracing your or someone's genealogy, ie, family tree
f) Creating a multi-media programme or CD-ROM, or web-based
project on Heritage topics
g) Designing a Museum Guide for Schools
h) Guiding in Heritage Galleries in schools/ community
i) Put up Heritage/ National Education (NE)-related exhibitions for
j) schools/ community
k) Volunteering at NHB events/ exhibitions and other projects
relate to Heritage in consultation with NHB Promotion of
National Symbols, eg. exhibition, information booklets, board
game, card game

5 HOW DO I GO ABOUT WORKING ON THE PROJECTS?

NHB will work with the Co-Curricular Activities ( CCA ) Branch of the
Ministry of Education to distribute information booklets on how to go
about these heritage projects and what follow up can be done. The
only programme that entails training is the volunteer guiding in NHB
Museums.

6 PERIOD OF COMMITMENT

Each project lasts about 3 months (depending on the nature of the


project), within which the student has to complete his or her project.

7 AWARD OF BADGE

The badge will be awarded as soon as the projects have been assessed
by the respective UG teachers. UGs can seek the advice and inputs
from NHB with regards to the evaluation if necessary. The list of
students who are eligible for the badge should be submitted to the
respective UG Headquarters and a copy should be sent to the National
Heritage Board for their records. Badges are to be collected from the
respective UG headquarters.
