In this article, the author appeals to the audience by explaining why despite some opposition, he and his group will continue to build a Muslim community center near the 9/11 attack sites. Abdul Rauf defends that the location that would be used has already been home to many who use the site to practice their faith. The message portrayed is that the main goal of the center is to improve relations between the west and the Muslims around the world. This mans article is an important because it brings to the table the fact that this country was built upon tolerance and religious freedom without the fear of persecution, and those who are opposing the building of the center are turning their back on those principles. In this article, Krauthammer points out that nobody is questioning whether or not these people have a legal right to build the mosque, but rather they are questioning moral right to. Some families of the victims view it as a sort of taunt to their faces, because the attackers killed their family members in the name of Islam. They feel as though its a trophy of some sort, and that they should feel comfortable as they remember their loved ones. Its not just insensitive, its provocative. Just like the Japanese wouldnt build a cultural center near Pearl Harbor, this shows a great case for the opposition of the community center. The Muslim Canadian Congress . (August 9, 2010). President Obama believes that Muslim-Americans have should and will have the same right to exercise and practice their religion as the Jewish and Christians in America. The people who attacked the towers on 9/11 were tied to Al- Qaeda, who have distorted views of Islam and have killed many Muslims themselves. Though many people lost loved ones on that day by these people, all Muslims should not be held accountable for what a few bad apples did. They do not represent what Islam stands for and should not be held as an example of what it is to be Muslim.
