DEC 2012/JAN 2013

Changes for 2013 coming for Journey

After evaluating our Wednesday night Journey program, we have decided to take things to the next level with all age groups. There will be a new name, a new time, and even a new format! Our new Wednesday night program will kick off on January 9th with an exciting new series! Check-in will begin at 6:15, programming will begin promptly at 6:30, and everything will wrap up by 7:30. Fifth Grade and down will be enjoying a free drink and Lunchables in their classrooms and we will be creating awesome opportunities for fun and learning. Make sure you make our new Wednesday night at Southern Hills a top priority!

Christmas at SHCC
In the kids ministry we are kicking off our Christmas series in December by teaching about the Birth of Jesus and how He came to earth because He loves us! We will be meeting on our regular schedule both rst and second services throughout December with the exception of our Christmas Eve Service at 6:30, which will be a family service. Merry Christmas!

Coming Soon...The Nest!

Soon after the start of the new year, SHCC will become very intentional about reaching families of special needs kids with the beginning of The Nest Ministry. On January 16th, after 2nd service, Corey Jones will be leading a meeting to discuss this ministry and explain what it means to serve this community. If you are a special needs educator or are interested in serving, please join The Nest City Group and attend this meeting. In preparations for this ministry two new classrooms have been built. The rst new room for The Nest is the Quiet Room. Students with special needs often have sensitivity to noise or even visual stimulation. For a child who becomes rattled by the increased activity levels, providing them a take a break area free of visual and auditory distraction can be helpful. This is a common characteristic of a child with sensory integration disorder, sensory processing dysfunction, autism, ADHD, and a host of other special needs diagnoses. When a child begins to appear agitated or less cooperative, he or she may be communicating their need to calm down and even rest. After a short period recollecting in the quiet space a child may be ready re-enter the larger group setting. **This space willnot to beused as a form of punishment or discipline. The Quiet Room should be viewed as a tool for helping a child recollect and recharge.** The second new room for The Nest is the Active Room. This room will be equipped with toys and environments to engage a child in gross motor skills. There will be equipment such as a mini-trampoline for children who need to work out some energy. Very often a child demonstrating, sensory seeking behavior can be satised by a quick jump on a trampoline and then returning to a calmer state after meeting his or her sensory needs. Please join us in prayer as we seek Gods will for this ministry and for the families who may have an opportunity to know Jesus as a result of serving this community.
