METHODOLOGY:
Connecting the Dots-A Collaborative
Model for Change: t's an idea to
create an umbrella-like collection of
new and existing organizations and
programs, sponsors, and individuals
whose work can change the world."

THE TRUTH PROJECT is part of that
collective changing the world-using
arts and social issues immersion to
promote nonviolence for kids and
teens in our neighborhoods and
communities.

M88ON:
THE TRUTH PROJECT is an arts and social issues immersion
program empowering students to promote nonviolence through
creativity, connection, collaboration, and communication.

NONVOLENCE

t is never too late. Never give up. Our
kids are worth it, this is our future, we're
talking about now. t starts in the present,
it starts now. This is what we are seeing
in them: WE BELEVE. We believe in
ourselves. Even if you don't believe in us,
we believe in each other. And we are
seeking the truth'. The Truth Pro]ect is
about empowering students through arts
and social issues to promote nonviolence
and as Gandhi said, to be the change they
wish to see in the world."

A CATALYST FOR CHANGE
THE TRUTH PROJECT IS...
A MOVEMENT: Students Take a Stand!
Community-driven movements
are happening around the
world...

Creative initiatives like the Chicago
and Baltimore-based programs The
Interrupters and Safe Streets
and The Baltimore Algebra
Project are serving as models for
taking back our streets, our
communities, our schools, our
youth...

Celebrating Literacy! an intergenerational reading program that serves as a
model for educating youth and seniors through afterschool immersion
experiences. Studying the writings, speeches, and work of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi and
other civil rights leaders, students and
seniors come together in a reading
program focused on continuing the
civil rights movement and what it
means to live the dream today.

Students Take a Stand! is the next
phase during which students take
what they learned from Celebrating
Literacy! and put it into action
Students evaluate the social issues their generation faces and plan their own
movement for change starting in their schools. This is their movement.

This Isnt a Sit-in. This is a Stand Up.
Students Prepare to Make History Again!
THE TRUTH PROJECT IS...
This school was the one with students from the highest
crime zip codes, no kitchen, no library, no safety resource
officer! With the lowest funding priority for any school in
the district
100 percent of the kids in this school are there because they
were sent there Zero tolerance Suspension Drugs Weap-
ons Assault Bullying Attempted Homicide Gang Violence
You name it. If they didnt go to jail, they went there.
This school is a microcosm for what is going wrong with our
communities, and the question is how do we right the wrongs,
starting with this school to be the change and turn things around
for our kids
This is an experiment in going deep, investing in a school that is
forgotten, and making a real and lasting difference If we can
change it there, theres no school that cant be turned around.
WE BELIEVE is a graphic arts project that involves students in
creating inspirational murals, banners, signs, trading cards,
t-shirts, and more (***see example above)sparking a creative
conversation about what they can do to make a changeand
starting a movement in their lives, and rippling out through
positive peer pressure.
