Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Why cant't the WL556E connect to my wireless AP/router? Answer 1: Please make sure that the WL556E is on the same wireless channel as your wireless AP/router. Answer 2: Verify if you have entered the following information on the WL556E. -SSID of wireless AP/router -MAC address of wireless AP/router (optional) -Security type used by your wireless AP/router -Encryption type used by your wireless AP/router -Network key/Passphrase used by your wireless AP/router 2. Why can't I access the GUI of the WL556E after it has been configured and connected to my wireless AP/router? Answer: The WL556E will automatically switch off its internal DHCP server so that host computers connecting to the WL556E can obtain an IP address from your main wireless AP/router to be able to have access to the Internet. 3. What if I want to change some configuration on the WL556E after it has been previously configured and connected to my wireless AP/router? Answer 1: First and easiest way is to press the reset button at the base of the WL556E for about 5 seconds. This will restore the WL556E to its default factory configuration. Answer 2: Second way is to set a static IP address on your PC while it is connected to the WL556E. Make sure that the IP address is on the 10.0.10.x subnet with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. 4. Will the WL556E increase the wireless range and throughput of my wireless AP/router? Answer: The WL556E will extend the range of your wireless AP/router but it will NOT increase the throughput due to the fact that all repeaters will sacrifice half of the bandwidth available from the primary router for clients wirelessly connected to the repeater. This is a result of the repeater taking turns talking to not just one partner, but to two, and having to relay the traffic between them. 5. Can I connect a second WL556E to the current WL556E that I have already connected to my wireless AP/router? Answer: It is possible to extend the wireless signal of your first WL556E by connecting another WL556E to it. But you must understand that each time the wireless signal is repeated, the repeated signal will be half of the original. So in theory, if your wireless AP/router gives a total throughput of about 50Mbps, after the 1st WL556E

it will be around 25Mbps and 12.5Mbps after the 2nd WL556E. Actual throughput might be lower than this after taking in consideration walls and other interference in the wireless medium. 6. Where is the ideal location that I can place the WL556E? Answer: It would be best to place the WL556E to a location where it can receive about 30% to 50% of the signal from your wireless AP/router to avoid having disconnections from the wireless AP/router and packet drops. Ideally, about 10 to 20 meters away from the wireless AP/router. 7. Why can't the WL556E connect to my wireless AP/router when I pressed the WPS buttons on both the devices? Answer: The WPS button on the WL556E is meant for connecting wireless client devices to the WL556E. To use this function, simply press the WPS button on the WL556E (3-5 seconds) until the LED start blinking and then press the WPS button on your wireless client within 2 minutes. 8. Can I use the WL556E with my old wireless-G AP/router? Answer: Yes. Even if the WL556E is a wireless-N repeater, it is backward compatible with wireless b and g devices including AP and clients.
