Name of the School: Sta. Maria Elementary School Observed: Grade: VI Location of the School: Laoag City, Ilocos Norte Date of Visit: January 31, 2012

In the class that I have observed, there are twenty-four pupils, eleven boys and fourteen girls. Their age range is eleven to thirteen years-old. The pupils way of managing their behavior is suitable and according to their age and grade level. There are times that they are noisy because of their excitement about the topic they were discussing.

Being a grade six pupil, they can already work independently. Their teacher just gave them necessary instructions for the activity and then let them work on it. The pupils span of attention is appropriate to their age. They can manage to listen to their teacher until they gave them another activity.

The pupils are able to listen to the discussion very well. Because of that they actively participate in class. Most of them are focused during the class, although the ones who are seated at the back, do things not related to what is being discussed.

An observation Guide for the Classroom Visit

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.) Describe these areas. Yes, there are areas in the classroom for specific purposes. There are boxes located at the back filled with cartolinas. There are also cabinets where books and different reference materials are located.

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room? Yes, there is a printed copy of the rules and procedures found in the classroom. It is posted on the classroom wall, near the door

After a morning prayer, there is a pupil who is assigned to lead a song. After the song, the teacher gave an activity to her pupils about their previous topic and a made recap about it. When the teacher is done, she gave a group activity about what they are about to discuss to motivate her students. After checking the activity, she then started to discuss the lesson for that day. When she is finished discussing she asked if there are any question of the pupils, and gave them another seatwork to see if her learners understand the lesson.

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement? Yes, there is seating arrangement. Actually, the grade six adviser said that she have three set of arrangement. Set A is their usual seating arrangement. Set B is instigated when they are having experiments. And Set C is for peer teaching. When the teacher organized the seating arrangement, she see to it that boys and girls are seated alternately.

6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed? The pupils are well-disciplined. They interact with other pupils in low tone voice, and in a manner that they will not disturb the class. The teacher calls the attention of the student whos disturbing the class and throws him/her a question about what they are discussing.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX Aspect of Classroom Management 1. Specific Areas in the Classroom 2. Classroom Rules 3. Classroom Procedures 4. Daily Routines 5. Seating Arrangement 6. Handling misbehavior/off- task behavior 7. Reinforcement of Positive Behavior 8. Others 9. Others 10. Others Description Effect on the Learners (to be filled up after you answer the analysis question)

My Analysis 1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behavior? Classroom organization helps the pupils be organized on every task the teacher gives them. It makes them be responsible learner. Routines teach them to do things orderly. It also helps them manage and spend their time wisely.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind? The teacher should bear in his/ her mind that when he/she designed the classroom organization and routines, it should cater the strength and weaknesses, similarities and differences of every learner. The teacher must understand that every pupils has his/her own intelligence and she must help them develop it.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In motivating students? Why were they effective? The teacher must give activities to sustain the learners interest in the topic. With that, the student will avoid doing thing unnecessary and so they not get bored. She must accept every learners ideas to promote peace in the class. When he/she is giving instructions she must explain it well so the learners will understand and will be eager to the given activities.

My Reflections 1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future; in what grade/ year level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would consider for this level? Why? I imagine myself in class of Grade 6 pupils. Every day, I will check if the students are wearing proper uniform. Always check the attendance and give merit to those who have perfect attendance. I will always give them check-up activities to see if they understand well our previous topics. After discussing the lesson for that day, Ill give them group activity to work on. Group activity helps them develop not only their cognitive aspect but also help them develop socialization and camaraderie with other learners.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these rules? 1. Always be on time 2. Wear proper uniform always 3. No littering and avoid vandalism I will choose these three rules because; if the pupils are trained on coming to school on time it will benefit them not only during their years in school but also when they are having their jobs in the future. They will learn to follow other rules in future.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why? Yes, learners should be involve in making class rules because they are the one who is covered by those rules and they are the one who will be benefited by the rules which are about to be implemented.
