The countrys rapid economic growth and urbanisation have stimulated and led to a burgeoning demand for urban residential and commercial space and have resulted in a massive scramble for urban land. Vertical development of real estate has become the norm across metropolitan and Tier I cities primarily to resolve the constraints of space. Given the trend towards high rise buildings, most major cities in India are now starting to sprout buildings above 30 floors. The demand for office space has been spurred by the fast paced development of the services sector that has created large scale employment opportunities. While in the organised retail sector, a number of players are firming up plans to launch their retail formats in smaller cities, the hospitality sector is also reaping the gains of the rapidly increasing inflow of tourists and business travellers to India. All these developments in various sector is fuelling the demand for elevators and escalators in India and the need for an analysis on the elevator and escalator market has hence never been greater.

Passenger elevators account for a bulk of the elevator market in India with 86.9% market share in 2011. Home lifts are
increasingly becoming popular in India. With the increase in the number of high end residential projects and townships, this segment is forecast to witness a high growth.
