A. Summary of Research done into general information about music magazines A music magazine is a magazine which is dedicated to music.

. There is a music magazine for most genres; from pop to rock to rap to classical, there are specialist magazines for each one. Every magazine is fitted to their target audience and has to have different features to reflect what the audiences want. You would expect to find lots of images of bands or artists that are related to their genre. Also, images associated with the genre will be used through mise-en-scene. They often feature gossip pages, fashion sections, gig guides, album reviews etc.

Most significantly the magazines market must be aware of AIDA A Attract audience, use of bright colours, image and text I Interest, articles and sell lines should entice the audience. D Desire, lure the reader by adding competitions, posters or give freebies A Act people to buy your product, motivate them into purchasing, for example, creating a sense of urgency with a limited-time offer or limited supply. B. Research into real music magazines (summary of findings) generic conventions of music magazines

Front covers must have; A bold, eye-catching masthead located at the top of the page. It is located at the top so it can be seen amongst the other magazines, and needs to be bold or brightly coloured so that people are aware of the title. It usually takes up of the cover. It has a main image which observes the rule of thirds where all the main parts of the image (eg the artists face or eyes) are located along the lines of intersection when the page is divided into nine squares. The image relates to the genre of music because this is what the target audience want to see. Rock fans will want to read and see about rock bands, not the latest country star. There are usually 2-3 font styles which run consistently on the cover and throughout the magazine. This keeps it simple for the audience and gives it a signature style. The cover lines relate to the artist on the cover so people are aware of who it is and also contains the features inside, to entice people to buy the magazine. A barcode, price and date all need to be included too, so that the magazine is sellable and can be retailed properly. Optionally, magazines may have a header and/or a footer with extra coverlines or puffers such as Free Posters or Win which again persuade people to buy them.

Contents pages have word contents at top date/issue number range of images all anchored with text and page number use columns for text with subheadings such as features/gossip/gig guides so its easily accessible for the readers title/logo of the magazine contents clearly links with cover in terms of style and genre of music The Double Page Spread Article central image usually of the cover star Written article has dramatic main heading which is short and catchy with subheading, a main summary of what the article contains. The copy/text is written in paragraphs (generally between 2-3)

All 3 parts of the magazine are clearly connected using a range of elements including: same font choices throughout (maximum 3 types) same color scheme magazine title is on all 3 pages Information on the cover is carried through into contents and then onto article Contents are consistent with the chosen genre and all the features and articles are relevan Same style of language/attitude throughout ie Pop having a mass appeal Summary of Research into genre: My chosen genre is pop and I found that: an aim of appealing to a general audience, rather than to a particular sub-culture or ideology an emphasis on production/sound rather than formal "artistic" qualities an emphasis on recording, production, and technology, over live performance/vocals reflects current trends rather than being innovative usually includes dance-oriented beats or rhythms

THE CONTENTS SHOULD INCLUDE: fashion page a gossip page the chart laid out in coloumns use base colours such as grey and one key feature colour 3. THE ARTICLE SHOULD BE:

4. GENERAL INFO
The sound and beat of songs attract them to the music. They would be willing to pay between 1 - 2 for my magazine. They dont currently read magazines because theyre too expensive, arent aimed at them or simply arent interested. They would pay between 1-2 They will read it if it was cheap, had style pages and artists that they like inside/on the cover.

Having summarized these results I am now ready to complete my formal proposal and start planning my own music magazine.
