Christmas On Baker Street
A Nelson tradition returns to Baker Street on Friday,
December 14 from 6 pm to 8 pm in the 600 block of Baker
Street. Christmas on Baker is a fun event for all ages. A live
nativity scene, hot chocolate and Christmas music will be
on ofer as a gif to the community from the churches of
Nelson. Children will have the opportunity to meet the
farm animals in the manger scene. Performances will be
given by the NCCS and St. Joes school choirs, the Cath-
olic Church Youth Band and Kelle Wardle Selkirk Music
program grad and friends. Tere will also be a com-
munity Christmas carol sing-a-long. Hot chocolate will be
served to help keep spirits high and fngers warm!

During the month of January the work of some thirty-
fve North Kootenay Lake artists is on display in both gal-
leries at the Langham Cultural Centre. Opening night re-
ception is on Friday, January 4. Tis annual show attracts
new work by established artists as well as newcomers. Te
show can be viewed during regular gallery hours from
Tursday to Sunday from 1 pm until 4 pm.
Te Salon Performance and Auction Night takes place on
Friday, January 18 at 7 pm. Tis popular event is a melange of
performances by Kaslo and area actors, musicians and story
tellers along with the live and silent auction of items solicited
from local individuals, businesses, galleries, and artists. Tis
annual fund raising event sustains the many projects of the
North Kootenay Lake Arts and Heritage Council: Art Walk,
Saturday Market, Banner Project, and the Scholarship. Te
auctioneers always inspire generous and competitive bid-
ding. Local performing groups entertain.

community. With generous support from the Regional
District, other community groups and individual fund-
raising, we are coordinating Christmas hampers and
stocking up the Food Cupboard for future need.
We are seeking donations of unwrapped gifs (specifc to
children and teenagers), non-perishables (especially protein
sources) which are neither dated, opened or damaged, juices,
warm mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, craf supplies, books (in
good condition), soap, shampoo, cleaning and other house-
hold products. Fresh produce can be donated Tuesdays and
Tursdays at the Food Hub between 10 am and 1 pm.
Donation drop of locations are Kaslo Front Street Mar-
ket (Big Way), Kaslo Building Supply, Kootenay Savings,
Te Flying Grizzly, Sunnyside Naturals, Cornucopia,
Bluebelle Bistro, Kaslo Hotel and the Kaslo Food Hub.
Applications are available at the Kaslo Food Hub, North
Kootenay Lake Community Services Society and Strong
Start locations at JV Humphries and Jewett School. Due
date for applications is Tursday, December 13, 2012, 1 pm
at the Kaslo Food Hub (home of the NKL Food Cupboard
located in the basement of St. Andrews Heritage Hall,
door access is in the alley next to Barren Fly and Tackle).

charities, Our Daily Bread giving is signifcantly down
this year from last year. While our support has waned, the
usage is up. We are seeing an increase in meals served as
the economy struggles. For most of our guests, the hot
meal they receive fve days a week may be the only well
balanced, nutritious meal they get. We greatly appreciate
individuals and business for supporting this vital service
within our community. It truly does make a diference.

as social networking, job bank, phone service, life skills
coaching, safe place, internet and informal counseling to
the working poor, those looking for work, the homeless,
and the families that are less fortunate. In short, your do-
nation helps us to provide nourishment and care, person-
al support and spiritual help that can be the start of a new
life for our guests.
We are aware that there are some who do not experi-
ence the family environment that the Christmas season
promotes. For some, family members may have passed
away or there may be extenuating circumstances where
they are unable to make a journey to their family. At Koo-
tenay Christian Fellowship and Our Daily Bread, we de-
sire to create that family experience.
