Background
Warrington Museum is one of the oldest municipal museums in the country. I believed it could benefit from an updated brand identity to attract a more extensive and diverse market. Their existing identity appeared outdated and lacked consistency (there seemed to be 2 logos applied in different ways).

Identity
The brand mark is a minimal representation of the pillar structures found in early Greek architecture, forming a WM monogram and a frame which surrounds it. A clean and geometric typeface was used in conjunction with the mark to create a more contemporary and updated aesthetic.

Exhibition guides
The concept of the brand campaign is centered around the idea of discovery. Museums exist to provide a diverse array of exhibitions to excite and engage the general public therefore offering a teaser into their own collections is intended to create a sense of mystery.

Advertising
A visual concept based on the idea of discovery was applied to various promotional material including exhibition guides providing a sneak peek into the collections that are exhibited. The We display. You discover tagline and the reveal within the exhibition guides further references the discovery concept.

Iconography
The geometric aesthetic of the brand mark was applied to the iconography using one stroke width. The bar below references the mark but also acts as a podium / platform to the icon itself.

Signage
The iconography was subsequently applied to a range of signage. The general wayfinding i.e. Toilets and cafe used a monochromatic colour scheme whereas the exhibitions themselves used the discovery concept and associated colour to create more of an impact.

Website
The website uses a clear and systematic format to ensure the focus was on the exhibitions and collections. I extended the discovery concept to how the content of each exhibition on the home page is revealed.* Flat graphics were used throughout to reference the geometric and 2D aesthetic of the iconography.

Application
To create a more engaging brand, I thought it would be useful to propose an application, using the website aesthetic as a basis behind the structure. The sliding discovery concept featured in the website is applied to the app as the notion is more effective through touch screen gestures. Both the website and app feature a search tool for users to discover what is exhibited at the museum.
